This B&C setup is still available. I'm having problems with PM replies getting rejected by the AS servers. Please contact me via direct email at davefr at gmail dot com.
I like his videos but he really needs to run a few tanks of fuel thru each saw to break them in, then tune the carbs properly (especially the Chinese saws) and then repeat the tests. I'm sure the Stihl comes out of the factory better tuned and possibly not needing as much break in run time.
I completely agree. The theory is that enabling the strato port would have been a patent violation so they closed it off. I knew about this in advance and it was a simple mod. It seemed to run fine with the port blocked.
However Neo-Tec shouldn't have picked a model that they couldn't clone...
So I wanted a pro grade chainsaw >40cc and <10 lbs for occassional light-med duty storm cleanup. 40cc is enough for the medium stuff and I wanted compact/lightweight. The only options are the Husky 543XP for around $600 or the Echo CS-4310 which is unobtainium here in the US. (Stihl threw in...
Up for sale is a like new 24" bar and chain from a Dolmar 7900. It's only made a few test cuts and was never used out in the field. I believe this style of mount also works for the larger Husqvarnas. Please see images. Price is $80 for the combo with free US shipping.
Update: Sale pending as of 3/19
Up for sale is a Makita Dolmar DCS6401 Chainsaw with 54mm Big Bore kit and dual port muffler. This saw was previously a Home Depot rental saw that I upgraded in 2008. The saw has had minimal use since the conversion. (maybe 8-12 hrs total run time). I just...
Update 3/20: Sold
I bought this saw brand new in 2006 from Cutters Edge with the intention of needing it for big tasks. That was 17 years ago and it's had <1 tank run thru it and <1 hr run time cutting cookies. It's not even broken in! I guess I bit off more than I could chew and just don't...
The Echo CS-4310SX looks like a great saw. 3.1 HP @ 9.5lbs and professional grade. But it's not avail. in the US. Anyone know if Echo allows dealers outside the US to ship to the US? Since it's so lightweight shipping can't be that bad. Anyone know of any AS friendly Echo dealers over in the UK?
I have some old 16:1 John Deere two cycle oil in pint cans that I have no use for. Instead of tossing it, is there any reason I can't blend it in with regular bar and chain oil as long as the ratio doesn't exceed 50/50?
I'm curious if the Makita EA3200 is a good choice for a small nimble 14" saw. Any reason to choose it over the Echo CS310 or Stihl MS170? Cost is about the same and I've always liked Makita/Dolmar.
I'd like to take my 550XP up to 20". Where's the sweet spot in bar and chain? Most of my cutting is soft west coast wood and I love the current balance, handling and power of this saw but would like a little more reach. If I go with a Oregon Speed Cut lightweight bar and narrow kerf chain...
I have plenty of gas chainsaws but I'd like to pick up a battery saw just for those quick jobs like minor storm cleanup, pruning, etc. Maybe 15-30 minute jobs just a few times per year. No more than 14-16" bar. There are a gazillion to pick from including some no name brands at Amazon. I don't...
