    Making or buying springboards

On an other forum (Bushcraft), someone asked where he could buy Springboards. I thought you guys could maybe help him out... It also got me thinking: making some could be a fun project (I've always wanted to try). can any of you provide info on making the metal brackets that go on the end of a...

    Rest in peace Louis...

I wanted to share this amongst fellow arborists. A week ago, one of my employees/friends died on the work site, of a heart attack. 64 years old Louis had been working since the age of 12. He lived for his job, never counting his hours, staying after work and even coming to help on his days off...

First flea market of the year... CAD again...

Snow is melting. First flea market of the year. Nothing very interesting until I came across a guy selling all his tools before moving abroad. I grabbed this: 1 year old MS260, barely used and well cared for. Came with a crate containing chain oil, synthetic mix oil, tools, a chain grinder...

    MS290 cylinder options (modding)

An old friend of mine will drop by this WE with his MS290 to fix. the P&C are dead. Haven't seen it yet but, knowing it has been used for years by untrained WOOFERS, I believe him when he says P&C are dead. Looking for a new project, I was wondering what other cylinders (bigger) could fit (same...

    Anybody tried a Stihl MS 150 TC-E ?

Last time I dropped by one of our Stihl dealers, there was a MS 150 TC-E lying on the counter. Picked it up, boy was it light! The specs seem pretty low but it sure is light for tree climbing. Anybody tried it yet?

    Stihl Contra serial #35405 dating

I'm back on this forum (very busy this year...). Just got a perfectly running contra, serial number 35405. Bought it off it's original owner, everything is original, except chain and spark plug! Can any of you pro collectors help me date it? Ps: sorry if I don't answer straight away: not only...

Had to share this: worse 361 rebuild

Long story short, I had 3 Stihl 361 needing fixing at work. We had finished our job early and I therefore decided to have my crew fix them (I have a Stihl training and 2 of my employees do a lot of car and motorcycle mechanics). 1 of the 361's had a cracked crankcase but good P&C. The second one...

    026 oiling too much

My father told me his 026 (1998 model with non-adjustable oiler, bought in Canada) was dripping oil when stored. I thought the oil tank vent needed cleaning. Dropped by and started by cleaning the whole saw (he's not very good at taking care of his saw), including the tank vent. Then I started...

Stihl, husky, jred, dolmar (...). What personnal experience made you prefer one?

Not trying to start a new stihl vs husky vs ... Thread. I'm talking about real personal experience that lead you to make a choice. I love running husky saws, my favorite mid-size saw is probably my Jred 2163. Unfortunately, at work, we had plenty of problems with the huskies (probably a bad...

    361 barn find (carb question).

Got this 361 for free. Been used quite a bit but seems to only need a carb kit (and B&C). No time to take it apart (New year preparations). My question, can a 360 carb (or carb kit) fit on a 361?

    Stihl 088, .404 or 3/8

I have a 088 with a .404 chain. Most of my saws run 3/8 chains. I would like to switch the 088 to 3/8. That way, I can use the same roll of chain. Since I also have a Duromatic bar, it would be cheap to switch. Any advantages running a .404 chain on the 088? Can you notice any real differences...

    Anybody tried Iseki chippers?

Had many problems with the Jensen chipper we bought new last year. Thinking of selling it to get another one. We have an Iseki dealer that offers good customer service locally. Anybody tried their chippers? I tend to trust their design. Engine is Italian (same make as the one I have on my...

    Found this on my doorstep

Got back from work after a hard day (cutting maples on a very steep, very muddy slope) and found this on my doorstep. Bought it on ebay last Saturday. Can't wait to try it tomorrow (it's 8 pm here). I did fire it up (too bad for neighbors). Seems in pretty good shape so far.

    Capstan rope Winch. Worth it?

We have a powerful winch linked to a 90cc chainsaw (forgot the brand, will check tomorrow). That thing is super powerful but bulky, really heavy and not really reliable (designed for power but not really to be handled around in the woods). For these reasons, we are thinking about getting (also)...

    Iseki Shindaiwa yb411 (vs ms180, husky 36)

Picked up a few saws (needing work) from a dealer that was closing down (7 saws, stihl, husky, echo and shindaiwa). Only small saws, but that's something I lack. 2 of them were "easy projects": stihl ms180 and shindaiwa yb411. Being used to stihl pro models, I first checked out the 180. I was...

    New project, any Ideas?

I grabbed a few parts saws yesterday (a repair shop that was closing down). Amongst them: 2 Iseki saws, 1 echo pruning saw (fell off the tree), 1 ms 170 (in parts, cleaned after a flood), 1 ms 190 (also been through the flood, dirty and incomplete), and 1 ms 180 (clean and running but has been...

    spider digger advice

I am going to check out a used spider digger (euromach) tomorrow. I am not yet used to these machines. What should I check out before buying? http://193.164.196.30/images/994/9945704428.jpg

PPK 80 2 men chainsaw (pic heavy)

Finally found the time to go get the PPK chainsaw I had spotted a while ago (3 hours away from my place). Dusted it, drained the old fuel and... ... started it! Great for a 65 years old saw! Had dead insects spitting out the mufflers the on the first start but it fired up better than a new...

    MS 361 vs MS 362

What do you guys think of the MS 362? Got a bunch a few months ago and just started using them. Plenty of power (for it's size) but is it reliable? Cut down a 4ft poplar with it, (against it's lean) worked okay with it's bar burried (lots of fun cutting a 4ft tree with a 18" bar) but there...
