Splitter cylinder leaking and Live Oak questions

Live oak should be no issue for a 20 ton splitter. Some times the grain twists around the tree. A 24" round really should be split with few problems. I cut up rounds larger that 30" - more so I can move them than for the splitter.

    Craigslist laughs

I do not think you can buy a new MS880 for much less than $1800 - with a short bar. If the three bars and chains are good they are worth close to $1K themselves.

    Advise on felling a leaner

Can you work safely and have a very good escape route? I agree that cutting from the back - very slowly, would be the best. If the downhill side of the tree base is hollow or rotten. Have to have a spotter watching the top for movement. Once it starts, get away! The really bad part is if the...

    Ms660 with a 74" bar?

Send it to Brad. It will return a very different saw. I ran mine with a STIHL 47 inch bar and full comp chain in the oak here in Texas and had no issues. Hal

    Ms660 with a 74" bar?

I think that an 880 would easily do the trick. But, I would also recommend it have a trip to Brad for some work before it is put to work. Hal

    Is a hopup/rebuild worth it?

Do you really need to have a rebuild kit put into the carb on the 310/390? Not sure there is a need for a new carb, other than a few more $$ to the saw shop. I have one of those that runs very well and is still the saw I use most often. As you can see from my signature, I have a modded 066. I...

    Ms660 Bar size

I have two bars for my 066: a 36" for any large wood I need to cut. I use a full comp RS chain with an 8 pin sprocket. Cuts very well in the oak we have here. I also have a 25" inch bar I use for all the other uses I have for the 066. Hal
