I want to freshen up my 395

Thanks everyone. At what point do y'all think I'd be better off just buying a new saw and selling this one as a project to someone else? It does run, it just seems weak, and the motor feels a little mushy when I pull on the cord (without the decompression button pushed in)

I want to freshen up my 395

Any good resources online or in print. This saws seems to be low on power. My compression gauge said 125, but I don't know that I trust it. I was thinking of doing a small muffler mod, new rings and piston, maybe eliminate the base gasket. Does everybody replace their crank seal.at the same...

    Milling with new 592XP?

I always run my saws hard when brand new. I let them warm up a bit and then it's go time...

tell me about chainsaws and epa

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. If I remember right the EPA grades, (I thought they were letters, but maybe they are numbers:confused:) Represent kind of a grade. The really clean running machines, like a four stroke generator came run for a long time before they make X amount of...

Spent half a day out with my MS290

He He, I would be in real trouble if I could'nt cut wood in the snow!

Falling video. How not to do it i guess.

Looks like it was leaning toward the house. I would have made the back cut first, stuck a wedge or two in it and then cut the face. Finally wedge it over. Of course hindsight is always 20/20 right?

I want to be on Axe-men!

If you want to be on TV call everybody you can. If you want to be a timber faller call Crown Alaska logging. They will might give you a shot. Also Columbia helicopters.

    anybody hiring??

I would check out Southeast Alaska if you think you can handle the remoteness, expensive cost of living and bad weather. Did I mention we are short on pretty women? Try Phoenix logging or Crown Alaska logging. I think they are both hiring right now. You might be able to get on driving truck, or...

    saw chain tension

Maybe its just me but the part of my bar that wears out it right before it meets with the tip. I think that is from cutting with the end of the bar? I don't think that chain tension is as much of an issue as long as it isn't way too tight and getting too hot. I think it has a lot do with...

    saw chain tension

No sag here, its dangerous if you ask me. Also I pull up on the bar while adjusting the chain. I keep my chain so that I can lift a few of the drivers out of the rail. I personally don't like getting hit by a chain that flies off. I check when the chain is hot and make sure that I can...

Not sure the wife will agree

Yeah just think how much it would cost to have a re[air may to come out and say, "Yup its broke, you need a new one." And add that th=o the price of a new washing machine.

5,000 lbs of Oak and a nice State Trooper.

That's a nice load. In my neck of the woods of Alaska we don't have hardwoods, so the wood is a lot lighter. That would be a small load here, but I wonder how the weight of a big softwood load would work out. Kinda makes you wonder about the 1/2 ton truck out there hauling firewood...

how to use a strong running saw

Spoiler alert. News report from station, and introduced by field reporter. Fat dude with retarded necklace and sunglasses using an electric chainsaw in a sawing motion. Cutting limbs on a large branch that broke out of a hardwood tree and smashed his little white picket fence. Wife taking...

    Which one 372XP or 576xp?

If you want the occasional use super beast get the 395 If you want a saw that you can use for anything, even big bar work get the 390. I have had both. The 395 runs great and has tons of power, but its big heavy and its old school. Complete with outboard clutch, and front chain adjuster both...

Clutch Engagement Speed - Anybody Tach It?

Maximum torque, just like max HP is at full throttle. I like to keep light pressure on the saw and keep the chain speed and RPM up if I can. It seems like it is easier on everything to me. I don't make the saw work any harder than it has to unless I'm in a hurry, or I can't help it. Which is...
