Who is running a ported/modded milling saw?

I'm running a Walkerized 3120. Dual port muffler. It doesn't seem to get too hot, but I don't have a baseline to comare it to. Pretty happy with it's performance. Same thing with a Tree Sling'r 390, woods port, dual port muffler. Runs pretty cool and really screams through the wood. It...

Who placed where doesn't surprise me a bunch. Any times on a stock 372?

Best long bar for the money?

The difference in skip and comp has a lot to do with cutting speed. I can cut birch all day with my 24" bar and skip on my 359, but when I use comp in anything with the same bar, I have to have a lot lighter touch. Of course, that's right out of the box new, not a tuned up sharp chain. I hand...

I was with a friend who dove for prawns a bit larger in size than those in Kitimat. Good eatin critters!

    cleaning your chain?

I should start a thread: How to make the bucket on my excavator shiny?

    cleaning your chain?

It's not like it's passing through the carb into the crankcase. It's going around the bar. I found one in my gangbox in the back of my truck that was there for about a year and a half. It was mostly run out, but I washed it off with a hose and threw it on to cut up some stumps I dug out...

    log arches for steep situation?

Option#2 for the high ball logs is to get a monster bull line, 3/4" or better and run it from the top of the hill to the bottom, hanging it in a tree on both ends. We just tied it off at the bottom and took up slack with a machine at the top end, (pickup no.1) It gets tricky from there, but...

    log arches for steep situation?

I've done this a lot as well. You need a lot of lift in order to effeciently drag sticks up the hill, the more the better. We've worked with everything in height up to about 60'. Having the ability to climb helps as well. The best way is to rig a block in a tree and run a rope through it down...

Do you guys not have trees where you live? I use wood to clean mine.

    Falling pics 11/25/09

That's the truth. I'm in a weird interior zone with a mix of interior and coastal fir. There's a lot of interior fir 10' dbh around here, but with the tops blown out of them or so full of defects, they'd hardly make firewood. I've seen quite a few gorgeous coastal type pumpkins laying on the...

28" bar Skiptooth of Full Comp Chain

My ported 359 w/ 24" bar cuts a lot faster with skip vs comp. The oiler has a hard time keeping up with comp as well.

Started on a bigger log yesterday.

Nice work! I use a 42" on my 3120 all the time, even for cutting 8x8's. I find it balances really nicely, it's just heavy :) What do you use for rails on your first cut?

    Husqvarna 359

Not a chainsaw but an O+R drill

If you have an opportunity, port it. Or run a Tanaka, which seems ported out of the box. (loud) The echoes aren't bad but the throttle always sticks and slides around on the frame.

    Simonized saws.

I'll echo this. I might not be an everyday faller, but I tip a lot of wood. I want a saw that's uncorked but still reliable. I don't want to buy a fast cookie cutter that's worn out before the pull rope is. The capacity to know how to kill trees every day and how to build a saw to do it...

$50 on Jasha, consider it a bet. Too bad you couldn`t run the saw daily for 4 years and race em again.

What is your favorite wood to build with? And to mill?

Western Red Cedar. I've milled a bit of Douglas Fir, but I've only really built 8x8 cant's for a 10x30 firewood shed and two days ago I built 2 13' 8x8 gate posts. This summer I'd like to try some Hemlock or more Fir, but I don't have a LOT of stuff I need to make around here. Maybe more...

Sticky Chain , bar to thick?????

I'm going to say your clutch drum isnt engaging your oil pump properly; Remove your clutch, and spin the drum around until it drops into the oil pump. It sometimes might catch on the bearing or not seat in the pump properly on the first try I've found. There should be a minimal amount of...
