~60cc shootout 962 Efco vs 361 Stihl vs 036 Stihl

Off the top of my head the base was between the 036 and 361 in volume. I think the 962 should have the advantage over the stihls in performance, wider piston skirts and room to gain all the compression you would want.

~60cc shootout 962 Efco vs 361 Stihl vs 036 Stihl

Made a new brass base gasket last night, squish height between the two pistons was off a few thou. Will put it back together tonight. Not sure what I can do for video, camera is messed up.

    Ported 880 tuning problems??

Sounds like an air leak if you need to add lots of LS fuel to keep idle down. Then because the LS contributes about 25% of the full speed fuel it is over contributing giving you a fuel curve rich on the lower to mid range and a boggy saw. I would go over the intake boot and base gasket to...

090 (Hotsaw in progress) Sprocket Size

Thats the way to do it. Should dig up a few bars too, 25" and 28" bars cut down nicely to run the 12 and 13 gears for the 11 I think you should be able to trim the heal and reposition the holes from a 21". Though if you are cuting 16" plus wood a trimmed down 21" might be too short to keep from...

090 (Hotsaw in progress) Sprocket Size

With 3/8 chain I would think you should be able to easily pull a 12 pin and maybe 13 depending on just what is done to the saw. To run those kind of gears you will need to do up a custom bar.

    He-Man has a bent rod

I'd go with the gun, thinking of it that the gun works partly against the inertia of the crank mass, that cut some force off the rod. The next point with impact is that it is compressing the engine with piston against nothing but air air so the force should never exceed normal engine forces and...

    how to bore a carb??

Carbs are lilely the most difficult part to modify, Like Simonizer posted, change the venturi and the fuel curve will change. This happens because the velocity of air going past the main feeder jet decreases while the velocity going past the low speed orifices near the throttle plate stay the...

    372 Connecting and bore questions

Jacob J is bang on! Do yourself a huge favor and set it on the shelf but keep the feelers out for a servicable piston and cylider. If you want a project there are many more doable box projects to dig into. LOL I have boxes of such projects...

    372 Connecting and bore questions

It is almost never as simple as bolting one cylinder onto a different saw, there are issues with the deck height, port locations, skirt widths, lower transfer ports, connection points at both carb and exhaust, fin locations, bolt patterns... Rods and cranks in saws are very difficult to...

    ethanol testing results

Set a saw to run bang on with 100% gas then run it on 10% ethanol and it will be a little lean, let that ethanol soak up a percent or two of water and the mixture gets leaner yet. If it gets enough water to start to separate out the oil it is all over but the crying. Even if the parts in the...

    porting question on my 361

Not sure. Porting on small and big saws need to be done differently but it is possible to have a ported 60cc saw that will cut right with a 90cc stock saw in ~12 inch wood. 5lb less saw makes a huge difference on the back. 361 ports up well. #1 issue on the 361 is the muffler, there is a...

    Electric Hand Planers

Yep, they would be nasty on fingers, also need to watch how you set them down, too easy to cut the cord or dull cutters. Best to let them stop spinning first.

Question on Compression - Can I Save This 028WB EQ?

Agree, the oil in the cylinder would throw off a compression reading and leakdown is not something that works on a two stroke with pinned ring ends and open ports. I think what you saw was the check valve in the gauge holding. Problem with a saw that was robbed of parts is that you can be...

~60cc shootout 962 Efco vs 361 Stihl vs 036 Stihl

I hope the new 962 piston has a ~34mm wide skirt like the original 962 did.

    Electric Hand Planers

+1 They are good for bulk removal, maybe flattening out a cupped board, but not really much help in final finish. They are great smoothing an edge of a rough cut board though. Also they make quick work carving paddles. I have a Makita that must be 15 years old, gone through 3-4 sets of...

    Porting Theory

Eigth. Start out simple and make one change at a time and test the saw. Beyond generally good or generally bad, as soon as two changes are made at the same time it is all but impossible to tell if both changes were good, one was good and one did nothing, one was bad and the other good or both...

Stihl 026 aftermarket piston and ring

Yes, used them before, work fine. Idea is that the pressure on the cylinder wall is concentrated on a smaller surface area with improved seeling while the groove can accumulate and hold some oil. On the down side they likely will wear a little faster given the contact pressure between the...

    stihl 026 help needed

Other than problems directly related to the rebuild one very simple thing it can be, is that when the carb was reinstalled the pulse line did not slip onto the nipple on the carb.

    CC Specialty flex shaft

Foredom motor is great, no complaints, get the metal foot pedal though. Small angle hand pieces 55 and 56 are far from heavy duity and patients is needed. Also most latch type burrs they use are hard to find and have limited reach to get deep into the transfers. I have a couple years on...

    Porting Theory

Agree, this sort of stuff takes more than just one read to soak in and to me makes it worth while to buy the books. "Two Stroke Performance Tuning" by G. Bell is another good read and is quite up to date. "High Performance Two Stroke" by Dixon is also decent and goes into simple box muffler...
