    Best bar length for 346XP

I'm using a 20 inch bar on my Stihl 026 and am thinking about replacing it with a 346XP. Talking to some of the local cutters, they've said the 346XP runs best with a 18 inch bar - something to do with it being a fast saw. Is this correct? Also - anyone know why there are such good deals...

    Stihl 026

If you're purpose is to carry the saw to cut wood for your fire while you're camping - No way would I carry my 026 that far for that purpose. I have a 019 and I wouldn't carry it that far to cut firewood.

    Stihl 029 or Husqvarna 346XP

I looked at both these (346xp and the 026). I got the 026. They both cut about the same in the little tests I ran at the dealers, I liked the ergonomics of the 026 over the 346xp.

    Stihl 056 question

Power on the saw is fantastic and it accelerates fine. I use it for cutting big stumps off, it zip right thru them. This saw has very few hours on it, I'd guess less than 100. It's just the air filter is soaked with fuel after running it a short time. What the "implulse line"? got any hints that...

    Stihl 056 question

When I run my 056 - which luckily isn't often - the air filter gets wet with fuel. Any ideas on what could be wrong? and how to fix it? thanks...

    7T vs. 8T sprocket

7t vs. 8t I run a 8T on my 056 with a 32 inch bar, full chisel chain. It's seems to work fine when I use it.

    power vs break-in time

power vs. break-in-time On the Stihl 260 I bought last week my dealer told me run 10 tanks thru it and bring it back to have it adjusted.

    stump cuts

I've never had a problem with my 260 binding or kicking on when lopping stumps off. It will tighten up a tad right at the end of the cut when the stump wants to settle back on the saw - I just push them over and trim the remainder. A saftey concern for me is when the saw goes all the way thru...

    stump cuts

I'm cutting stumps with a new 260, biggest is about 30 inches in diameter. I found the best method is to walk the saw around the base of the stump. I have to cut them real low so I can get in with my bobcat and grab the logs.

    Stilh 260 vs. Husky 346xp

Stihl 260 vs. Husky 346xp I was trying to decide between these two saws; I went and tried both out at my local dealers. I've used only Stihl saws for over 30 years, I'm pretty familiar with how they work/feel and am probably somewhat biased toward Stihl. I liked the Husky because of cost and...

Wife finally went my way and the Stihl 260

Wife...260 I checked with my dealer; here it's you buy a select saw (the 260 seems to be one of them) and for $19.95 you get a case, hat and chain. Seems like a good deal...

Wife finally went my way and the Stihl 260

Re: Re: Intended Use Does anyone know - are these goodies being offered up by other Stihl dealers? or is this a deal that Sting worked out with his local dealer? I'm about to trudge up to my local dealer and pick up a 260, I'd sure like to get a free chain and hat. I don't need a case.

Wife finally went my way and the Stihl 260

I'm wondering about longevity and these tuned/hot saws? Has anyone run one for years and had generally good luck? My old Stihl 056 Super is over 15 years old, has been used every year of those 15 years and is still a strong, fast saw (it's also heavy). My Stihl 018/019 (I don't know what it is)...

    Chainsaw Modifications???

I'm 98% sure I'm going to get a new 026 - and I'd like to make whatever simple changes I can to make it run better. I searched this forum and found a good thread "How to make right Muffler-Changes on a MS 260?" - but the pictures posted by jsikkema1 are missing now. Does anyone have them saved...

Wife finally went my way and the Stihl 260

I'm leaning toward this same saw - what changes are you planning on making to it? and can they be done at home or do you plan on sending it off to someone?

    How do you remove stumps

How do you remove stumps... I needed to do this same thing a couple of years ago. I bought a Bobcat 863 with Hyflow and their big stump grinder (the local dealer didn't rent them). Setting up to grind one down takes longer than grinding it - it's a great piece of equipment. The grinder has sat...

    Chainsaw question (bar length)

Chainsaw question You guys got me thinking again - I need to stop doing this, it's driving me crazy. I went back to $'s - and I can get the Husky 346xp for about $100 less than the 260Pro, $60 less than 260. How do they compare? 30 years of owning Stihl saws - I've had some problems with a few...

    Stilh 260 vs. Husky 346xp

How do these saws compare in real world use? I've used Stihl for 30 years, and currently have a 056 and a 018. I'm looking for someting in between these two and was looking at the Stihl 290 until I read some posts here that suggested that saw was terrible. That got me back to the 260. Cost...

    Chainsaw question (bar length)

chainsaw question Oregon_rob, The reason for adding this saw is stictly cost. It's about $100 less than the saw I really want and am should buy - the 260 Pro. $100 is...well you know...$100 and this time of year up here it matters. The 260 Pro has 1/4 less HP, 2.6 less lbs and even that...
