    Carburetor Adjustment - Cheat Sheet

Hi guys Here's the file (took me a little while to find where i had it saved!) if its of any use to anyone! The link in Brad's signature is better (you can actually SEE him tuning a saw) but this is a nice little "in the field" sheet for those who are not as familiar with the process. :)

    So, how did I do?

Nope, not on craigslist. Im up in Canada - he wanted a lot more than $500 actually but my keen negotiating skills (while trying to keep my enthusiasm in check) got it down a bit ;) I actually have no idea. It comes out from the handle bar. There's a bolt hole (and one in the starter cover)...

    So, how did I do?

58 cc but a whopping 8hp - on account of the rotary engine. Haha, good point. I'll leave it at "under $500" :P

    So, how did I do?

So I get a call from a friend & this is what I came home with. It's a Dolmar KMS-4 wankel (in case that's not obvious). It runs beautifully & apparently the history is that is has very low actual usage - although there's clearly a bit of cosmetic wear so I'm not sure I believe that. At...

45:1 fuel/oil ratio in my chainsaw and weed eater, opinions/advise please...

This. 40-1, 50-1, 45-1 its not a big deal as long as you adjust your carb. I use 40-1 in just about everything that takes mix. Worst you'll do is foul up a plug prematurely and even that is unlikely.

Dolmar 5100S "To rebuild, or not to rebuild"

I vote rebuild without a doubt. I have at least 5 saws in the 50cc class and my 5100 is definitely one of the first 2 I grab on a regular basis (my 346 probably beats it out just slightly). To me i like it more than any stihl in that class i have (or have used) - although really ALL of them...

Just made a deal on a 260 Pro

Throw a 5100/5105 into the mix and run ;)

550XP-"You CANNOT run it with 3/8 pitch setup. No way!"

This. Its mostly a personal preference thing, some gains can be had one way or the other but it wont make a huge amount of difference in the wood either way. The fact that your dealer would say it "cant be done" is an absolute joke. My dealer stocks their 550s with .325 and would raise an...

Just made a deal on a 260 Pro

It will compare pretty well - each has its own strengths and weaknesses - you're comparing the best of the best to each other so really the differences tend to come down to personal preference, the type and size of wood you are cutting and your cutting style. As others have said, that 20" bar...

    Emery Cloth Really Works???

No, the lines of transfer will be from the piston and therefore transfered onto the cylinder. Either way the piston is probably toast (especially considering the compression reading you gave) but the cylinder may be salvageable. From a learning standpoint, may be worth replacing the piston...

    Emery Cloth Really Works???

Remember that if a piston is scorched, something had to transfer. Usually its the softer metal on the piston, transferring to the harder cylinder. So yes, in many cases emery cloth (or muriatic acid) will take that transfer off the cylinder & you will be able to re-use it again. If its pitted...

Your thoughts on a new saw.

Its been a long time since Ive been on the forum (busy working with & on saws!! No, seriously just personal stuff but all good now). Anyway, it seems only fitting to come back with my first post on yet another "which 50 cc saw should I buy" thread :) This is no disrespect to the OP, its a fair...

    346xp vs. 026

What's nice is that a fellow can be away from this board for like 6 months & when he comes back we get the same old 260 vs 346 debate to make you feel right at home again. :)

    Advice please...

THanks again everyone. Upon further inspection, I see absolutely no signs of tampering (not sure if you can see at all from the crappy photo) but this certainly appears to be an incident of a switched case (thus no S/N). It certainly makes a lot more sense considering the history of the fellow...

    Advice please...

Oh i never thought of a replacement case! I will check tonight but you know what, I dont think it did have "file marks" there was just no S/N! The thing that totally confused me about the whole scenario is, as i mentioned, i bought a lot of saws from this guy & all the others had S/N on them...

    Advice please...

Hey All, It seems like ages since I've been here but with the hacks on the forum I've had a lot of trouble logging in!Anyway, to my question: Recently, I bought a number of saws from a logger who retired. They were all good saws, the lot price was great & I have sold, traded or given away...

    Stupid question - stihl 044 - 10 or 12mm?

K, that makes sense about the "X" meaning the country of origin. I agree, with that in mind, its a 10mm pin on that saw. Cheers.

    Stupid question - stihl 044 - 10 or 12mm?

Hey guys, I have a dumb question. If an 044 serial number is 127606576 is that a 12mm or a 10mm wrist pin? I know its supposed to be anything after x29583701 is a 12mm but I can't figure out if the "X" stands for the first number (meaning that the one I listed is actually smaller than...

    A load of Stihls

Haha, agreed. I picked up about 15 stihls in december & ive barely made a dent in the pile because the wife always has some chore that needs to be done before i can get to the repairs!
