    Does this qualify as a...

I hope I still have my "new Iron" or plastiki in 25 years. And all I do is mow, plow gardens, and plow snow. Nice work on that.

    TSP for creosote control

I agree with most. Burn Dry, Burn Hot, shouldn't be much of an issue overall. I clean mine 2 times a year. Once at the end of the season, and then check for birds at the beginning.

    wood ash uses

Some to the garden... some in the chuck holes... some over the bank, and some in the driveway. Most times though they just end up over the bank mixed in with soil, branches, and everything else trying to reclaim what mother nature took away a while ago. The creek has long since re-routed so no...

How to Keep an Axe Head on a Wooden Handle

I broke my fiberglass handle from Lowes, went down to the local hardware store picked up one that was a "close fit" and hung it on the handle. Jammed the wood chip in, hammered the metal wedges in and it held on for about 2 years. It is now time to replace the handle as a few hard pieces of...

Licking Stoveworks La-Belle in need of repair

I was hoping that someone can help me out and point me in the right direction. I recently due to a change in jobs, have taken up residence with my Mother In law. Most cringe when they hear that, but it isn't so bad. Here's the real issue I am having. She has in her basment a Licking...

    we got an unlimited supply

And here I thought with all the gas pipelines coming through If I could scrounge a load off of one of the nearby farmers who has an abundance coming out his ears I'd be golden. Lotsa hardwoods in these hills. I have been splitting for my house and dads by hand for the past 20 years.

Introduced my little guy to the woods!

Looking for the appropriate flannel for the stick picker my self. He is 19 mos old and already daddy's little shadow. Not when we have the blades out, but we will spend as much time in the woods as possible.

    About that time again

I just dug out the file, and a few blades.. after a few practice swings on the golf clubs, I split a few pieces of left over rounds from last year. The neighbor has a log splitter, but after hitting 30 yesterday, I have vowed that I can still warm my, and my father's house with 2 saws, and 1...

    looking to buy a saw?

I absolutely love my MS290. It has been through locust, willow, countless red oak, and it doesn't really care. As long as the chain is sharp, it hasn't left me stranded. I cut for 2 houses mine and my fathers. He has his little 174 that he runs the hell out of and I have to say that it...

    Help ID'ing yellow wood

Great for bonfires... but much better in a wood stove. Does pop and crackle and shoot nice sparks onto the hearth when re-loading. Most round here use for fence posts but I think that it is much better to burn.

    Poofing Stove

It is within 2 ft of the peak, and it is about 3ft above the peak. I am guessing that I was choking it down too quickly after adding a load of wood.

    Poofing Stove

Hey, I have been running my Hearthstone II for 3 years now, and I have run into an issue. It is poofing at me on damp days, especially in the evening time. It runs all day without a problem, but it seems that when I toss a log on for the evening snooze it takes about half an hour for it to...

    The younger the better....

My little guy just started walking the other day. Prior he would scoot around and pick up wood chips that I dropped as I carried it into the house and put them on the hearth. Cracks me up, and I can't wait until the weather breaks round here. He ought to be walking sturdy enough to become a...

    Question about fire starter logs.

I used to do the kindling/paper.beerbox thing, however I have found that for ease of use, 4 sticks of FATWOOD does the trick. Call me lazy, but when the missus wants a fire, no time to gather kindling.
