    Shaver Improvement Forum

I used fiberglass insulation in the door. It seems to have done the job. The outside of the door was cooler to the touch. It lasted for two seasons before the outer edges began to break down and needed replaced.

    Nature's Comfort NCB-175 Install

Thank you for the replies. I run my furnace about 6 to almost 7 months out of the year. One set of batteries a year would be nice. Wifi data logging sounds interesting. Might be a bit more that what I need, but it does sound interesting. I have wifi and a laptop. What all is involved in...

    Nature's Comfort NCB-175 Install

projectsho89, Now that you have had the ET-73 running for a while, what is the battery life for the receiver and transmitter when left on 24/7? I'm interested in doing the same as you, but I'm finding mixed reviews on the web for battery life. Thanks.

    World Book Heat

To twist things back to Windwlker7's question: after butchering a deer this year, I threw the bones into my Shaver 290 crematory. With a good bed of coals they burned up and added some calcium into the garden ashes. Down wind smelled like a slightly over cooked steak.

This is the second season for the original Dayton blower on my 290. Since I freed it up a couple weeks ago, I haven't had any problems. I do have a spare on hand as well as an extra circulator pump, just in case.

    DHW problem on Shaver 165

:agree2: Turn on the DHW tank to heat the water. Keep an eye on your DHW circulator pump. I'd imagine that it's not good for the pump if there isn't enough water in the line.

Mine also stopped last week. I tapped on it with the screw driver handle and it started right up. I guess it just got a little sticky and decided to hang up.

    ramsplitter hv25

I'm researching splitters now for next year's purchase. Partial towards a tractor mount and was considering a Ramsplitter. Maybe not now, seeing that customer service, quality control, and possibly even quality of steel appears to be lacking. Guess I'll continue searching.

Another Great Speeco Customer Service Story

ditto. I'm leaning towards their 3 point tractor mount splitter.

I'm making a draft flapper for my Shaver for less than $20

I have my blower draft door 3/4 open and am getting surprisingly good burn times with scrap pieces of pine. I'm saving the hardwood for when it's colder. I too have noticed less smoke when idling. So far so good. I am going to try to give the flapper a bit more downward angle. My flapper is...

OWB chimney cap - Vacu-Stack or other?

Just like ghitch75 said; mine started to drip black crap onto my wood shed's new tin roof today.Took it off and will probably wait till spring to put it back on.

    Preheating your DHW - OWB

I ran the DHW coil in my 290 last season and didn't notice any problems. I set it up as described in Shaver's installation guide. I actually turn off the breaker for the hot water tank's electricity. If the water temp. drops in the tank, then the water in the tank circulates to the DHW coil in...

I'm making a draft flapper for my Shaver for less than $20

I fired up my 290 two nights ago and discovered that a little weight is needed. I too drilled a small hole in the bottom center of the flapper and added a small bolt and a few nuts.

OWB chimney cap - Vacu-Stack or other?

I used Super Vent chimney pipe so I also used their deluxe rain cap. I added some screening to act as a spark arrestor. I fired up the furnace two nights ago and it seems to be working fine so far.

I'm making a draft flapper for my Shaver for less than $20

Windwalker7, I also put one together on my 290. I used the same 4" plastic flapper, cut the other end off of an empty Dinty More stew can, press fitted the two together and then siliconed it to the blower motor. I haven't fired up the furnace yet, but it opens up when the blower motor...

John D, I can only imagine that you'll reap the benefits of your labor. I too yanked the panels off and added extra insulation. I'm anxious to fire it up and see how it performs this season.
