    Use your hands and dig down under mulch. Is the root ball wet or dry? Another pic with the mulch pulled back and focusing on trunk and top of root ball. Any late Frosts? Lawn doesn't look right.

    I wouldn't remove everything in Red yet. The center, Top of your tree does not look so great. You may be removing the healthy part of your tree.

    Yes Now you can extend your digging season by covering trees to be transplanted and new hole/ home for tree with straw. This keeps the ground from freezing for awhile.

    Now is the time to go into the woods and put ribbons on the trees you will want to dig up. Then wait until all the leaves have fallen, trees are then dormant, grab your spade and start transplanting. Marking trees with ribbon now makes it easier to identify the species once the leaves are off.

    Don't sweat it. This is why it is good to carry a camera with you and take lot's of pictures. As long as your truck height is below.....13'6". ( Illinois ). You shouldn't have a problem. Wires slip.....poles sag......poles snap....... (hard to sit tight with wires on truck)

    Fell it. Buck it. Split it. Stack it Repeat check a sticky for Moisture content ( 13% ? ) if not ready for this year, you will have a good start on next years or the next. hurry before someone on here scrounges it up before you can get to it. Enjoy it, tis the season.
