    Found me an army saw.

I've hosted pics at imagevenue for ages, and never had an issue before. They ask you if the pics are family friendly or not, and I'm fairly certain I selected that option. I'll try rehosting them. I'm not getting any popups here.

    Found me an army saw.

Sold a nice old Super EZ today, and nearly tripped on this thing on my way out the door. Kinda hard to see, being green and all. It has compression, we'll see about spark when I get to work tomorrow. I like that Connie's right there on the airbox.

New Stihl MS 250. Had first issue tonight, something I should worry about?

See it myself now and again. Always nice to confirm that the saw is oiling properly, though. Should be about 1 tank of oil to every 2 tanks of mix on an ms250.

    GypoLogger's Yukon Cabin

I've been reading up on satellite internet- one piece of advice. Talk to some folks nearby who have it, see how satisfied they are. Mainly the satellite folks seem to be concerned with getting contracts signed and monthly payments made. Providing reliable service? Not so much. Good luck with the...

    020 av

I just did a fuel line on an 020av, got the part from stihl, and don't remember it being too steep. 15-20 bucks isn't a lot of money to put into a saw that runs as well as an 020.

Are Stihl saws as good as they were?

Regarding Stihl's warranty, it's far from worthless, but as with any warranty, its enforceability is dependent on the person(s) between the manufacturer and the customer. Some dealers, having sold an MS180 and made relatively little profit, do not wish to see the saw again, and will frustrate...

    New 201 T tune guidance

Brad, my understanding was that the ignition was adjusting itself to the new carb setting, not that the carb was electronic. Just passing on what I was told.

    New 201 T tune guidance

Stihl Rep told me yesterday that the magic ingredient for tuning 201s is waiting 20 seconds after each carb adjustment, in order to allow the computer to adjust the timing to the new setting. He said that without the 20 second wait between adjustments, you're just chasing the timing all over the...

STIHL MS 290 Farm Boss (Extremely Hard to Start Cold)

When the dealer gets it to start and run, have they taken off the fuel cap just prior to starting? I'm thinking the tank vent could be bad, resulting in no fuel to the carb. See if there's a hiss when you open the fuel cap.

Hard to cold start Stihl 026, arrrgh

Glad you got the problem solved- a few more thoughts for folks reading this thread in the future. I've seen an 026 with a broken control lever- hard starting because the choke wasn't being held closed. New control lever fixed it right up. There's also a little red rubber umbrella thingy...

Buy the MS 290 or spend the extra money for the more powerful .........

Hey, make sure you get the 6-pak of HP Ultra when you pay for the saw- Stihl will extend your warranty out to two years. You should be running HP Ultra anyway, the warranty is just gravy. Congrats on a new 261, you'll LOVE it.

    Tack in bar oil

    This thread is whack.

Using up the last of the fuel

It's ok to let a saw starve for fuel, as long as it's not under load at the time. Idle is best. I like to get a can of that 40:1 premix stuff like SEF or Moto-Mix at the saw shop, or wallyworld has it sometimes, and leave some of that in the carb and tank. It's stable for quite a while.

    What lathe?

Brad, I've got and old Craftsman/Atlas from 1939, the version with the roller bearing headstock, and it has about .0015 runout on the spindle. I got it with a lot of tooling for under 300 about ten years back, which was a great deal, but they're affordable and plenty accurate, especially if...

Stihl HD Air Filter Replacement Options

The one from Stens is not bad at all, and cost me about 15 from my dealer. I'd prefer the HD2, but it's more money than I have into the 460 thus far.

Stihl 039 has stripped bar stud - how to fix it?

Heat should help to deactivate threadlocker. If you heat the stud gently, allowing the surrounding case to heat (gently) as well, and then quickly cool the stud with an ice cube or a shot of carb cleaner, it should back right out very easily. I only mention the thing about the vise grips because...

which to keep? ms310 or 034

If you are looking to get rid of a good 034, I will happily relieve you of it. I figure that old thing is worth 75 bucks, tops. I think that if you make about 10 cuts with a 034, and then ten cuts with the ms310, and then ten more cuts with the 034, you'll know which saw to keep. 310 is...

    Opinions on the Husqvarna 455

There's a fellow on this site who doesn't care for Stihls in general, and 290s particularly. He cannot resist chiming in to bash the 290 whenever someone mentions it. I am becoming his opposite, the yang to his yin. Or the other way around, whichever is cooler. Whatever. Stihl warranty...
