How to get big rounds on truck?

Lots of good discussion here. One of my problems is that a main road that I normally use for hauling my 'booty' is a 'passenger vehicle' only road meaning no trailers are allowed and definitley no towing of log splitters. So I'm pretty much left with noodling, wedge & sledge, or some sort of...

How to get big rounds on truck?

Thanks for all the replies everybody. I will definitely be rolling in the woods now with a sledge and wedge, and some sort of manual winch on the back of my truck. I have to go now I think my noodler is calling me. :tongue2:

How to get big rounds on truck?

Just watched some videos on noodling. I've done this before just didn't know that was what it was called. Probably the easiest way to go. This doesn't dull the chain out any faster does it?

How to get big rounds on truck?

I have a design in mind but I will do a search and look. Maybe there are some that will be easier than what I'm thinking. Thanks.

How to get big rounds on truck?

Thanks, I shoulda thought of this. Sometimes the big greenies are a bear to split though. Those ripcut/noodle chains make me a bit nervous. All the ones I've looked at say "not for handheld use". Thanks blades. I've come up with what I think will be a fairly cheap hitch mount manual...

How to get big rounds on truck?

Ok, maybe this is a dumb question but I do alot of cutting in the woods by myself and many times I'll come across some big diameter trees. Like right now I'm working a 28" diameter red oak and a 30" diameter white oak. The problem is, after bucking them into 16-18" rounds they still weigh...

Just got my new Husky 576XP...

This puppy came with a 20" 3/8" pitch .058 gauge bar. I want to up the bar length to either 24" or 28" but none of these longer bars that I have seen are the .058 gauge. Is there any advantage to the .058 gauge chain due to the slight increase in width or should I just buy the longer bar and...

Good points. Thanks guys. I guess it's time to switch brands and try running with the Huskys.

Shindaiwa 757 Pro or Husky 567 XP

What the general consensus here? A Shindaiwa 757 Pro for $600 or a Husky 576 XP for $750. The power specs seem to be very similar. I've had good luck with my 488pro and 680pro Shinnys but I don't think they're quite the saw a Husky is. Is the 576XP worth the extra $150?

    028 bogging when warm

Well, I ordered the 42mm x 1.5mm set that baileys listed for an 024 saw. Hopefully they fit the 028WB. I'll throw them on when they get here, put her back together, run a compression test, then she how it runs. I may look for one of the electronic ignition mods. Thanks for all the help...

    028 bogging when warm

On the piston/ring sizes I found the following from Baileys: Q. I have a 028 WB Stihl, the piston measures 42 MM. Will this ring work for me? A. There are no specs on any 028 WB that ever came with a 42mm piston. That unit came with either 44mm or 46mm, using 44mm x 1.5mm & 46 x 1.5mm...

    028 bogging when warm

Yeah, I can tear this puppy down and put back together in about an hour (not sure if this is good or not). I agree I don't just want to throw parts at it but I figure if I got it torn down I might as well change the original rings, they've got to be worn being nearly 30 yrs. old. The piston...

    028 bogging when warm

I don't have a flywheel puller so I haven't changed them. I used generic fuel line as I haven't found the OEM impulse line yet.

    028 bogging when warm

Yes it is slightly domed. Does this mean its most likely 42mm. I tried measuring with my caliper but its kind of worn and I can't tell what the reading is. It looks like 43mm ??

    028 bogging when warm

I'm going to replace some parts on this puppy while I've got it torn down. The spec sheet I have says this 028WB has a 42mm bore. I'm want to replace the rings but all I can find are 44mm ring sets. Can somebody confirm what bore size a 028WB actually is? If it is 42mm, anybody know where I...

    028 bogging when warm

Ok, here's where its at. Compression 130psi. I tore the whole thing down last night and here's what I saw: Piston, rings, and cylinder all looked great for their age. An air line (I'm guessing) which runs from the carb to a barbed fitting at the cylinder was extremely loose at the cylinder...

    028 bogging when warm

I have an old Stihl 028WB. When first fired up runs and cuts great for about the first 5 minutes. Once fully warmed up boggs down something terrible whether in the wood or free wheeling. Almost sounds like the chain brake is on, no power at all. What sound I be looking at first? Carb...
