    Looking to buy a Ms441

The 441 is my favorite saw. This is the one saw that I have owned out of 20 that needed zero mods. It screams. I also bought mine new in 2012. It pulls a 25" bar through red oak like it was balsa wood. I also have a 362 that I keep a 20" bar installed on. I have been cutting lots of large red...

    Grinder vs file

Only files for me he last 20 or more years. I get the chain sharper than a grinder and it only takes a few minutes. I save all those sharpening fees, at several dollars a time, it adds up fast.

if you catch a theif steeling from your property

If you shooting thieves is a bad idea, how about a: sword or large knife or shovel or baseball bat? I like "large knife" t0 deescalate a potential shooting situation (after the warning shot has been fired).

    Wood ID time

Chinese elm, full of water. OK to burn when it is dry. Wet it seems like American elm that actually spits with a maul.

It is good firewood and very easy to split with a maul. I have burned a lot of walnut. I always make a point of getting free walnut home to the woodpile promptly.

    ms-261 3/8 chain!?

3/8" x .050" and 72 drive on a 20" bar work fine on my 261C. I like this because I have two other saws with the same set up and I mostly stock the same 20" bar and 3/8" chain, this simplifies things in the field.

    3/8 on ms261?

I recently set up my 261C with the same 7 pin sprocket, 20" long bar and 3/8" x .050" chain I use on my 362C and 441C. This simplified my inventory of chains, bars and files. The 261C with 20" bar and 3/8" chain is a bit slower than the old .325" x .063" chain and 18" long bar but it still cuts...

    Recommend a saw

Stihl 271 or 291 in 18" or better a 261 with a 20" bar. A 20" bar weighs only a few ounces more and prevents some stooping over when limbing, hard on the back. My body is about worn out too, but I use 20" bars. The new 261 will almost cut like the old 361. I find the 362 adequate but somewhat...

    MS-251C

No. Save up for a 241, twice the saw and it will last twice as long. My first saw was an 025 and I wore it out in a few years. I will not wear out the 241 unless I live to 200 years of age.
