    Flush Cut Felling

No notch. Tree must fall in its natural direction. Cut through until tree starts to sit on bar. Then start boring cuts until 3/4 way through tree. The tree will sit on itself. Then start the felling cut on opposite side and about 2" above first cut.

    Question about saw chain

I thought I knew, but the more I think about it, I am not sure anymore. Will someone tell me how to determine a right hand cutter from a left hand cutter on a saw chain. Do you look from the powerhead or from the bar tip. Thanks

I also would be interested in air drying come lumber. I have some pecan trees that I can have cut into lumber at the local sawmill for .20 a board foot. This would be for my personal use. Does anyone have any recommendations for air drying this lumber or a reference on the right way to do this...

    When should I start pruning?

I planted ten hickory trees two years ago from nuts. They are now about 4 feet tall and 1/4 to 3/8 in diameter. I would like the trunks to be straight and the first limbs to be about 10 feet from the ground. When should I start thinking about pruning them to achieve this. Thanks

    Tree Identification

I have been cutting down Ash Trees for Saw Logs and Firewood. I cut down a tree that I thought was Ash but when I cut into it the Heartwood was red and purple. The Sap Wood is white and the bark looks like Ash. Is this just a variety of Ash or another type of tree. Thanks For You Help

    McCulloch 3200 ChainSaw

My MAC 3200 leaks oil like a sieve. I tore it apart the other and discovered that the Oil Tank was split. I think it would be an OK saw for limbing because it is much lighter than my other saws, but I have not been able to find another oil tank. I know that McCulloch went bankrupt a few years...

    Moisture Content of Trees

Is there less moisture in trees during the winter time than there is during the summertime. It seems to me that there should be less. Now my real question. Do trees that are felled during the winter take less time to season than trees that are cut down during the summer.

    046 Magnum Cutting Circles

Here we go again. I squared the rails, sighted down the rails, the bar is straight and true. I sharpened the chain. Went out and made some cuts on a twenty inch hickory log. I made two cuts, the cuts were crooked to the left. I then turned the bar over, made two more cuts and they were also...

    046 Magnum Cutting Circles

So, it is ok to bend the bar back to straight? I sat the bar on a level surface and it did tip over, I ground the rails until it would stand straight, I used my machinist square and it is now square. I then measured the gap in the rails and it measured .070 +/- .002. I am running a .063 chain...

    046 Magnum Cutting Circles

The bar has been pinched now that I think about it. What should I look for on the bar. Do I need to spread the rails, or is the bar toast.

    046 Magnum Cutting Circles

I actually used concrete blocks, but kept going under the water. Maybe wood blocks are better. I will try it.
