    What is a cord

Back when I got firewood logs in exchange for mechanic services I would measure the log length and diameter at both ends and use truncated cone volume math calculator to find the actual volume of wood in each log. According to my research, there is between 90 and 110 cubic feet of wood in a...

Roots lifting up a green house?

It will settle if you take the roots out but you should backfill the hole so the slab doesn't settle too much. Judging the correct amount of fill dirt will be the tricky part.

    Taylor OWB update

Congrats! It feels good to have control of your heating costs and at $900 invested you'll break even by spring I'm guessing. Taylors aren't the most efficient but they last forever. Mine is well over 20 years old and still kicking.

How to keep the stacked wood straight?

Every piece of wood is tapered and I just stack so the taper alternates as I build a stack. If a piece doesn't look right I turn it 180 degrees and if it still looks wrong I put it somewhere else in the stack. When the stack is complete I check it with my 6' level on the vertical and tap the...

McCulloch3.4 Eager Beaver or Timber Bear - No Oil To Chain

If you put air to the outlet you will blow the suction hose off. Most suction hoses have fallen off and been replaced already but maybe yours is still original. The suction hose and filter are located inside the bar oil tank. If you really want to blow air somewhere then take the oil pump off...

    HVAC and OWB question

Usually if you have to help it out the start capacitor is fried but if the whole motor is within your price range then you should get the whole motor.

    Log Splitter wont split

The welded cylinder on mine has a screw off cap at the shaft end but it's a bugger to get loose. I usually break the cap loose with my chain wrench and cheater pipe before taking the cylinder off the splitter.

Real-world cost savins with OWB and hot water. Coming from electric heat.

I see a couple of potential problems with your situation, the biggest being that you have no duct work. If you plan to circulate heat by convection only, a boiler would be much less efficient than your wood stove. A boiler uses twice the wood that an indoor stove does on average so depending on...

    Fastest way to season firewood?

The fastest way I know of is to season it in my boiler over a bed of hot coals. Moisture starts evaporating almost instantly. :jester:

    Log Splitter wont split

That plastic may be a spacer/backer washer for the ram o-ring. The seal kit will come with a new one but you need to flush and clean your hydraulic tank/system too so that no nasty stuff gets back into your ram. If it has a hydraulic filter change that out too.

    Log Splitter wont split

Run the ram all the way out and then disconnect the hose closest to the splitting wedge and then try to run the ram out towards the splitting wedge some more. What you are doing is trying to force fluid past the seals in the ram.
