Addition to the stable - MS-361

It seems that the best mod was done by Andy (Lakeside53), and there is still a thread here but the images are gone. There is this other thread: https://www.arboristsite.com/threads/stihl-361-muffler-mod-how-to.323756/ that has enough pictures to follow what the mod looks like. There is also a...

Addition to the stable - MS-361

Thanks folks! I will check on the oiler screw, check into the muffler mod - and will look at the C&P at the same time. I have heard that the OEM made the muffler restrictive deliberately to provide backpressure to the cylinder, to maintain proper temperature. But I read that tons of people open...

Addition to the stable - MS-361

Well, after years and years of looking off and on and not being sure if I need it for my limited use, I picked up a MS361 today. The saw carries a 20" bar and starts and runs pretty well. I will clean it up and give it a good inspection, and she will be a good one for the times, like this...

    Fixed up a Partner 1616

Sorry for a long delay, didn't see the post. I ended up dialing the screw settings by feel, so I can't really tell what the factory ones would be. I am at high altitude too, so what I have may not work for others. Currently the little 1616 is my third saw and sees little use but it starts with...

    I saw it on Ebay/Craigslist

This is not a chainsaw but quite a reading... I read this with great interest, not in the "product" but in the unorthodox manner of presentation... http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/for/1932159755.html

Best time to Unload some saws?

I think you will sell for a lot more on ebay than on CL. People go bonkers on ebay, the bidding frenzy just takes over common sense. This is good for sellers. Ebay is rarely a good place for buyers, although sometimes you get lucky. The hassle is, you've got to ship and paypal will take a fee...

    Have a shot at a 041

I found a local deal for a Stihl 041, fairly old but running, for $125. Is this something I should consider, you think? Another option is a MS441 for $500. A bit much for a saw larger than I need. What I would actually prefer is a 361, a tad larger than my 026 but it is not turning up... Thanks!

    Husky 361?

Thanks for all your replies! It helps. I think the 60 cc size is as big as I need to go, I have no large wood to cut (24" is the max). -P

Jonsered 930, is it a good deal?

I found a JS 930 for $300, with a Oregon 24 inch bar and chain and a 36 inch bar and chain. I hear JS are good saws but I think the saw is too big for me, I don't cut anything larger than 24". The deal seems good though. Is the 930 heavy? How does it compare with a Stihl 361 or 441? Thanks! -P

    Be careful out there

Yikes! I have a lot of respect even for small trees. They come down hard, and the bounce once they fall is so strong, I tend to stay as far away as I can...

    Husky 361?

That is exactly the question that I meant to ask, and I figured the provocative subject line would not get ignored ;) Thanks!

    Husky 361?

I DID search but the results are all over the place. What is the Husky equivalent of the Stihl 361? What is the same for my old Stihl 026? I have no brand preference, just like fine machines and think I want another used saw... Thanks!

    Finally got to cutting

It is a Fiskars, very light 2 lb ax with a stiff fiberglass handle. I like it a lot, even though at first I thought I wand a heavier ax. This one swings so fast that it splits as well as an old 3 lb one I used, but quite a bit easier to wield. My son loves it and can handle it with ease, and I...

    Finally got to cutting

That one was, actually. The kids found those in a pile on the river bank. Dry branches, they smolder at first and then burn up fast in the campfire, just perfect to watch the kids run around the fire, trying to find the place where the smoke does not blow. Of course, it always blows where they...

    Finally got to cutting

Here is my Mad Wood Chopper at work (I couldn't resist posting the one where he chops the stick across; no matter how much I tried to make suggestions he had to try for himself what would happen if you hit straight across the grain, so the stick did jump a little before it finally gave in :))...

    Finally got to cutting

I was going to get out to a friend's property last year to help her cut down some beetle killed pines but that did not work out. Finally, on Saturday my friend and I got there and and had a go at it. I have never fallen a tree before, only cut fallen trees for firewood, so I was anxious to try...
