    Husqvarna vs Stihl

Mastermind, I've asked Stihl several times about the supposed link between AT and M-tronic, they adimantly deny any involvement with Husky, Stihl says they developed thiers back with the 270 and 280 as test beds. They laugh when you ask them about the EU making them do it, they respond how...

First Catostrophic Failure Rod thru case

Had to pull them out first to check them.lol It prolly jumped a good 6" off the bench when the rod went thru the bottom, I'll have to use it as a tool on why to let a shop rebuild your saw tool, unless of course you're a avid site member. The guy who rebuilt it had no comprehension of squish...

Going to look at a stihl 066 tomorrow

i'd be very careful, selling two saws with replaced jugs, cracked tank, could be a saw jockey picking up old logging saws and patching them up and turning them for a buck, a new oem jug, piston, rings and rod bearing are going to set the average guy back 325.00.

Thoughts About Having The Husky Closed Port 55 Piston Reproduced....

Randy, there is a saw that will have a viable A/M demand for many of it parts of it's parts are being discountinued is the Stihl 028. Many of it's parts seem to have been discontinued, oem jug/piston are gone as well as several other components, there are thousands upon thousands of these still...

First Catostrophic Failure Rod thru case

Seen my first catostrophic failure, scared the he77 out of me, saw totally grenaded, while I had it on the bench tuning it after reassembly. Tommorrow will take the camera and get some good photo's, I've never seen a jug split half into, the piston was in many pieces and the rod was out the...

Difference between the 360 and 361?

Mdavlee gave you the right advice, the 361 is a design unto itself, one of the best Stihl has put on the market imho.....it was the saw on here four or five years ago, some even claimed it cured cancer. It has a good power to weight ratio, responds well to a muffler mod, one of the best firewood...

Easiest Way to Sell Stihl Saws

According to Stihl reps they don't pay Husky anything, they say they developed it long before with the 270/280 platform which came out years ago using electronic solenoid to control the carby. Both brands need each other to drive technology to the market place....I was looking at old saw prices...

Gonna get a new big saw this week!

I'll take a ported 460 over a stock 660 any day. The 460 we have will absolutely run off and hide from a stock 660, the 460 has no issue with a 32" bar and we run a 8 pin on the 25" bar. We buy ten wheeler loads of cull logs when tops aren't available in a close proximity. A load will run about...

Easiest Way to Sell Stihl Saws

Somewhere Brad posted a great photo of the 350 style where there is no metal cap on the design, crank rides directly on the mains, there is no metal cap the plastic housing is the engine pan. Polymers are being used in firearms all the time......didn't say if it was good or bad, just that it...

Easiest Way to Sell Stihl Saws

Good one Terry, I'll respectfully agree on the first part and disagree on the second, all the post said it's the easiest way to sell them, nothing to do which one is better.lol Knew it would get some panties in a wad.lol I think I'm correct in saying Husky inherited the design of setting the...

    chain tensioner keeps breaking.

That is the way the owner's manual would have told you to tighten the chain, lifting up on the bar so that your just tightening the chain, not lifting the bar. The most common reason is not lifting the bar and overtightening the chain. Just like bar nuts, they just need to be snug, I've seen...

Easiest Way to Sell Stihl Saws

The easiest way to sell Stihl Chainsaws is to simply tear down a Husky Homeowner farm saw and dispaly the crank sitting in the plastic case with the cylinder loose were the customer can take it off and see the bead of sealant used for a head gasket and the two piece plastic bottom end. In...

    Stihl MS261 C-M 3/8 Chain?

Excellent reply......the masterwrench/gold cert just means he has spent a week in class and are prolly good at the run of the mill repairs, high emphasis on carbs/fuel related issues and engine failure analysis and product liability. We just don't see issues with the bottom ends, I have seen one...

    Husqvarna Made in Japan?

Stihl does not pay Husky for any AT technology, in fact according to those at Stihl, Stihl was ahead of the game with the 270/280 platform testing the electronic solenoid to control carb functions way before it showed up on any Husky, need to check your source.........also the fuel injection...

    Stihl MS261 C-M 3/8 Chain?

We've got a **** pot full of 261's out with several firewood operations, including ours, the largest operation cuts in excess of a thousand cords and services the Table Rock area all the way to Branson, he runs a 460 and two MS261 set up with 18" 3/8 .063 set ups. This guy believes in fueling...

    What's Husqvarna doing?

Husky makes some great saws, but it appears that the corporation continues to struggle, missed their profit projection by 23%, they yet again are playing musical chairs in the top corporate positions, another CEO has stepped down. They have not figured out that selling to the box stores is not a...

Made a good 038 deal tonite

Nice score! 038's are great saws built like a tank. A good one will still bring 375 to 425 at the shop.

    Husqvarna Made in Japan?

Stihl doesn't mfg in Japan. Germany,Brazil,USA and China, Chains are made by the Swiss China is for the pacific rim with the exception of a opening price point trimmer we'll be getting this year. Echo is making engines in Japan and has shut down all the Shindawia operation but the engine...

Poor advice becoming more common on AS...

MCW hit the nail on the head, some of the advice lately makes me cringe. I sell and work on saws every day and the family runs a firewood operation, but there is still alot I don't know after 35 years of using saws. I don't comment if I can't base it on personal expierence. I personally don't...
