    Would I need traffic control?

I would most definitely get a police detail. I am not sure if they charge where you are for one but they may not. The police will come and either set a detour or completely stop traffic while you and your men get the tree out of the road if it falls in the road. Have a man with a saw ready...

    Ants in Ailanthus

Piece it down in small chunks. If you rig it, once your rope handlers have it in the spot they want it to come down have them drop it hard. If you have to lower it slow all the way to the ground, have a man stand with a saw and buck it into 16 inch logs and just pick them up and slam them...

    Happy Fathers Day

My foreman went to rest his saw on his leg when he was 17 (he's got to be 50 now) and has a tear about an inch wide in his left leg. I will not cut without chaps on. It's company policy for one and for two it is common sense. I don't care how good you are with a saw it takes the smallest...

Just an idea tell me what you think?

I would be willing to travel anywhere in New England to meet some good tree guys. I'm from Southern Maine and drive wouldn't be to bad no matter where it was.

2 hand on the chainsaw at all times when cutting.

The company I work for doesn't allow one handed cutting at all. But when you are up in the bucket over a road with traffic without flaggers (yeah I know, you are probably asking why not hire some. The company is cheap) you need to hold the limb, cut it and then either swing it to the side of...

    Stuff found in trees

I could see it now. Every cut you make having to come down and sharpen your chain because you hit a bullet.

    Stuff found in trees

yeah that's a pain. I hate roadside trimming and line clearance (my job). We have to ground cut (clear anything under the powerlines and 8 feet on either side) a lot and there are so many property markers that chains don't last long. Nothing urks me more then cutting into a tree and hitting a...

    Stuff found in trees

I am not sure I know what you mean. I mean, I obviously understand what you are saying about what you have found but your last sentence didn't make much sense to me. Are you speaking in terms of searching trees to find objects? I was just asking what odd stuff people have found in take...

    Need a new chipper

So what you are saying is that they don't come stock with the winch, it's an option when you purchase? But it is cheaper for yourself to decline the option for the winch and purchase one and install it yourself?

    Need a new chipper

If I was you I would go get a new Bandit 255XP 15" chipper. If I remember right they come stock with a wench and 142 horsepower? Don't hold me to the horsepower I just know they are beef chippers and if you are doing residential and you get on of those you won't need a new chipper for a good...

    Stuff found in trees

You got it boss. Let me pull it out and snap a photo, check back around 3:00 PM EST. I'll try and zoom in with photoshop so you can see where my saw was hitting it. Where in CT are you from. I used to live in Putnam, Dayville, and Danielson when I was growing up.

    Catch a falling tree

I suppose that would work now-a-days just as good as it did back then. Did you have any spectators? I bet you they were loving watching those 100ft trees come-a flying. Great invention. Build a bunch of them and patenet them

    Stuff found in trees

I've found some big rocks way up in crotches of trees also, some handsaws that climbers got pinched and couldn't shake loose What else??

    Stuff found in trees

I am curious to know what others have found in trees as they either pruned or removed them. Me? I was dropping the but of a oak that split early and grew two huge leads that were each the size of on good size oak. Mind you we had taken the top out of these buts and they were probably 10' tall...

    I do not like Ash

I would definitely like to hear some good jokes. I've been in the business for around 5 years and honestly haven't heard that many so let 'er rip.

    I do not like Ash

I agree, there is no happy medium when it comes to removing ash. You rarely come across a situation where you are comfortable spiking it, you never feel comfortable free climbing (I don't anyway), and it seems up in Maine when you come across one they are diseased. Obviously the disease is...

    Backpack blower BR600

I do line clearance trimming and blowers make our jobs alot easier. Like said before it is much easier to pick up the big stuff and just blow the dust to the side of the road. It's also nice to be able to blow leaves and dust off of a yard when we have to trim someone's tree they planted...

    climbing equipment?

Buckingham makes the best climbing gear in my opinion. But like others have said why buy it if you have no experience. You need to take climbing courses or work for someone that will coach you. Good luck and please don't get into a tree when you don't know what you are doing!
