    Best insulated boiler lines

Back when I did my install in 2009. I needed four one inch lines 450 feet long so I did close cell spray foam in the trench. Its held up well. I have three furnaces with coils in the duct work and a flat plate for my domestic hot water.

    Sidearm heat exchanger reverse heating

If I get lazy in the off heating season and don't keep the temp up on my Garn. My propane water heater starts up and it will in turn heat the 2000 gallons of water in my Garn. I should just unplug the propane water heater so it won't come on but its nice to have a back up if I get busy and don't...

    Splitter engine sizing

If it were me I would spend the extra 80 dollars and get the 420 cc with the electric start. You don't have to hook up the electric start up if you don't want it right away. You also have the extra power if later you want to up grade your pump. But its easy to spend some one else's money. LOL

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

The only splitter pumps I have ever installed have come from Surplus center in Lincoln Ne. They are some what local to me and have treated me well over the years. Cast pumps. I only have had one issue with one pump and that was a front seal starting leaking about a year after the pump was...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

Some day I may just try a 28 GPM two stage on a 13 HP single cylinder and see if it will handle it. Probably will for the most part. Quick story. Few years back buddy showed up with a friend and a old Speco splitter with a 5 HP Briggs with a 11 GPM two stage pump. They have a OWB and had spit 20...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

Normally when we have used the Honda GX390 engine or the HF predator version we have used the 22GPM two stage like you did. I have always ran the 28 GPM two stage on a two cylinder 16 HP and up. Have BS vanguard 16 HP take has pulled a 28 GPM two stage for twenty plus years and handles it nice...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

Its like most things on paper is one way and the way it works is another. Back before farm tractors had the big GPM pumps that they do today for the planters. We added on extra pumps on the tractors or on the planters and ran them with PTO or the engine. We finally had to buy a flow meter we...

How to hook up a 12v winch to pull logs into a processing table?

Over the years I have operated at lot of 12 volt winches. At one time I mess with a lot of dead equipment. Cars, trucks and a lot of farm equipment. 12 Volt winches are nice until you need to run them a bunch. They like lots of amps and get hot and don't want to pull. One the the best days I...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

I have built a fair amount of hyd systems over the years and the least amount of restriction's you have the better and cooler the system will operate. Building this from the beginning we would have put at least one more fitting in the cylinder and would have added at least one more fitting in...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

If it was me I would drain the oil down and go back to the tank and put a 1.5" T in there. Bush down to run two 1" hoses one from the control valves and one from the dump valve. If you don't want to buy another filter housing then don't and dump the dump valve oil right back to the tank. I have...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

SemperFiSawguy. I will jump back in and throw out a few ideas. I have always had a gauge on the pilot line so I could see the pressure. I don't off hand remember what it runs and my wood processing equipment is buried in a shed fifteen miles away. I don't process wood in the winter. I like a...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

If you do end up putting the dump valve on. I would take the cylinder apart and weld on another fitting. Before I had a mig or tig machine I arc welded many hyd fitting on with 7018 rod. Just adding a T is not the right way to do it. Take a look at Wolf Ridge splitters web site. The pictures...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

Not sure what to tell you. I did a quick search on Ebay the cartridge number comes up. Several for sale. I double checked the block number and it is stamped on the block BAD 1CS5-AB but I didn't see any on Ebay. They may have changed the numbers. Trying to find a dealer that will help you will...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

I don't think we ever tried a different cracking pressure cartridge. 30 PSI worked so that is what we stayed with. Only thing we found on one of the early ones we did we used a 1/4 hose for the pilot line and that didn't seem to work well so from then on we used a 1/2 hose. Looks like your...

    Advanced log splitter plumbing question

Its been a while since I have installed a dump valve on a wood splitter. I think the first one I put on was probably fifteen years ago or so. Back then I did get that valve from James at Spliteze. Nice guy back then. From then on I normally bought parts off Ebay. It took some looking threw my...

    Starting the splitter build.

All I split is hardwood. A little Ash but mostly hedge { Osage Orange} locust and mulberry. My main go to splitter is homemade with a 4X24 with a two inch rod cylinder. I run a 28 GPM two stage pump. I don't feel the need for a five or six inch cylinder. Wedge design is key. Reading the wood is...

Homemade log splitter is very slow due to limited GPM from tractor.

A quick look up on the specs of that JD 2320 says it has 5.6 GPM total on the pump and 3.4 GPM on the outlet and 2.2 GPM for the steering. The only way your going to get any speed out of that set up is to add a PTO pump and add a tank for oil. Probably going to be cheaper to just have a stand...

    Starting a Cold Splitter

Back in the day when we split wood in the winter. I would put the splitter in my heated shop for a half a day. Made life a whole lot easier get the splitter started. A magnetic heater on the hyd oil tank or a torpedo heater with a tarp should do the trick.

How many ton log splitter do you need?

I have always ran pressure gauges on my splitters mostly for trouble shooting and adjusting the control valve and the shift down on the pump. The homemade splitter I use the most is four inch with a two and half inch rod cylinder. I have my relief valve set at 2500 PSI. Surplus Centers...

Single Wall Vs Double Wall stove pipe

My first call would be to there home owners insurance company and see how they want it done. Second would be to see how the stove maker wants it done. On my Garn boiler Garn wanted Class A insulated right out of the Garn all the way to the top of the chimney. That was fine with my insurance...
