Thanks everyone for your input. First time dealing with a mill and green lumber . Will keep you informed. Been searching alot of the do's and dont's on stickering, stacking, and painting ends. Alot of good info on here. I'm going to do everything i can to keep the integrity of the wood and put...

    Hickory Logs

I couldn't bring myself to cut them into firewood. The grain is beautiful. I know hickory is a lttle tough to work with. We just put in a whole new kitchen and went with natural hickory. The grains and natural streaks just stand out. Remodeling and updated alot of things in house and will...

    Hickory Logs

Guys i need a little info and input. I recently have been clearing a woodlot for a farmer and I just took down two nice shagbark hickories that are real straight. I'm interested in having the wood milled into boards for some future projects.I talked to a guy that runs a small sawmill and he is...

    which new saw to get?

I would stay in the family and look at a Stihl 362. I love my 361. My brother is running a 362 with a twenty inch bar for firewooding and it seems to be a nice setup.

    Todays Haul

Nic haul. Although it happens, I would hate to see 80 acres of trees cut and cleared. I'm working on trying to get more planted on my 80. Good job and be safe.

Who here cuts firewood exclusively with vintage saws?

Used to cut all the time with 032 stihl. One heck of a reliable firewood saw. When I purchased my 361 it was all over for long days with the old 032.

    Planted some new oaks today!

That's great. To many today don't think about the future. To many today don't want to do anything because they won't reap the rewards. How many times have you heard that by so many people " I won't live to see it". What would the world look like today without a little thought of our...

    How to ID American Chestnut

Please get us some pictures. I know you have sparked a lot of interest here. It would indeed be a sight to behold to see a american chestnut of that size left.

    Heads up Indiana

Thankfully my closest neighbor is 1/4 mile away. Although I don't like restrictions there are several OWB owners out there that have no respect for neighbors and such. They give all of us a bad name. All you have to do is take a drive in the city and you will be amazed. I work for the phone...

    Keeping my hand in

I feel the pain of being held up by all the white stuff. I do most of my cutting and hauling out in winter after deer season. Pretty tough to cut and get around in three foot drifts. Hate to say it but the lawn mower wil be out before we know it.

    Heatmor Damper door conversion?

That is a lot of wood. I don't burn that in two seasons. Either your heating a lot of square footage or something is definately wrong.

    House Humidity

Well i turned the boiler down and I am seeing the heat regulated through-out the house better. The upstairs temps. are up about 3-4 degrees. Unfortunately the RH has not come up but a couple % to 32-33. I have cleaned filter on humidifier on ductwork and have good water flow. After talking...

    Wood Hauling slowed down!

I here you there. That is usually what happens. Alot of them came as full time 4-wheel. The one I just put in is full time. I'm sure it won't hurt much to run but I have to run in hi-loc to run 2 HI. Not to mention the front shaft is spinning all the time which is wear and tear on u-joints and...

    Wood Hauling slowed down!

I do know that several were full time transfer cases and you can put a kit in to make it part time and run lock outs on front axle.

    Wood Hauling slowed down!

I don't really know much about the 203 other than it is chain driven. I'm assuming some 4-wheel drive guru's could chime in. I could'nt find a 205 that is gear driven to put in in a timely manner. Went back with another 203. I've mostly ran in Hi-loc. I would assume the low lock would change...

    House Humidity

Will do. Right now I have turned the temp down on the boiler and am experimenting with closing off registers. Trying to get heat upstairs. Humidity in house came up a couple to 30%. Got a ways to go.

    Wood Hauling slowed down!

Yeah, I know the 203 is a pile. Last time I had issues I looked everywhere to find a 205. All the serious off-roaders hoard em up. I just need one to work as this is my old reliable beater. I may be in the market for one real soon. From what I understand the 205 is real reliable. I thought i...

    House Humidity

I'm going to explore all options before i throw more money away. It is an older home and although we've completely remodeled, it's drafty at times. I could see where an air to air exchanger would be needed in new construction. Just don't know if that is my best option. Will do some...

    Wood Hauling slowed down!

Old Blue is out of commision for a little while. That is my 79 Chevy 3/4 ton wood hauler. I've got some noise in transfer case like grinding gears. Cant get it in 4 wheel. Lockers are ok. It's got the 203 chain drive. Last time I had problems the chain came apart and blew out both sides of the...
