    Belay Loop on saddles

Fall arrest attachments MUST be dorsal or ventral and at the level of your sternum. A loop on the back of a climbing saddle then DOES NOT qualify as a suitable fall arrest attachment. In TCC's there are 2 events in which belay is used. In the speed climb or speed belay a ground person tends...

    tensil strength and working strength

Danger what you have said is true on paper but may mislead many people in practise. I would urge anyone reading this who doesnt understand why the angle between the ascending and descending sides of the line governs relative force to stick with SoM's basic rule of doubling the weight of the...

    Bucket truck off level setup.

We have bucket day once a week and pack as much work in as possible to justify the hire. It is my usual practise to cut in to slopes to get the machines I hire as level as possible pre lift. Which is not say I haven't set up on some dodgy slopes of course but a shovel is really useful.

Doing the right thing(sqreanbean you got me thinking)

Your question is actually two questions which are: 1. Did I do the morally right thing? Yes you did. It is our job to look after our clients first and foremost. 2. Did I do the legally right thing. In WA the answer would still be yes. That of course may vary from place to place. It is...

Did I do the right thing?

Did you do the right thing? Just stop for a moment, turn it all around and think about it. Your mother, sister, wife overhears a conversation about a criminal on her property and asks the contractor "what is that all about?" What would you want this guy to say? What about some lowlife robs...

    Homemade bits and pieces ?

Amen to that. I love homemade stuff but the moment you put a critical load on it you better be certain it will equal or better the store bought version or someone is going to pay a heavy price. Me I would be taking a splicing course, get trained to do it exactly right and then "experiment"...

    whadja do today?

Hey Old Swede. I saw the pics of your Euc. Does it have any vertical oedemas? Long fissures in the bark that look like the bark shrunk somehow? Oh and if you didn't already get some, any chance of a fruit picture so we can put a name to it? :msp_thumbup:

Thinking of getting a rotating grapple attachment

That was a good demo video based on my own experience with grapples and grapple buckets. I have the same mini skid steer and agree that a BMG (actually they are an intermercanto grapple sold by BMG) is an awesome tool. When the logs are just too big, we swap the grapple over to a grapple bucket...

    What is an accident?

Interesting topic Jeff. My first instinct was all the scenarios were preventable but after reading BCWestcoast's reply I think bees flying in to a tree in flower rather than the hive you didnt see when doing the VTA is a fair description of accident. My opinion, on the whole, is any...

    Sad news

RIP Scotty. I was fortunate enough to meet Scotty when still wet behind the ears and despite him being State champion climber and national finalist he had no ego whatsoever. In a few simple sentences he set me on the right path in selecting equipment and then walked on, job done. Scotty...

    MS 200T - A couple questions

I tried to rep you for this blatant honesty. It is clear you are a man because a woman would have read the manual first! Someone help a brother help a brother and rep this poor male fool! Just so we are crystal clear. I too am a foolish man with pretensions of knowledge who frequently breaks...

    MS 200T - A couple questions

Could you clarify this for me. Does the chain run loose, then tight, then loose, then tight when rotated or is it always tight? If it is constantly too tight then of course just back it off a touch. Remembering that like all metal chains it loosens when hot and tightens when cool. If its...

i need help with some acceptable knots for hanging a pully or block

I have always used whoopies in Tenex for hanging pulleys. Never having used a knot I cannot help there but as I have always used a timber hitch for attaching the porta wrap without a single failure ever, if I had to tie a knot that is the way I would go. I use an eye sling in 5/8 Tenex as my...

    whadja do today?

Boom! Thanks rope! I would love to regale you all with tales of the incredibly manly tree-related stuff I did today but the truth is I took my long suffering wife out to the best restaraunt in our local area had a great lunch then slept it off! Some times its about the little stuff dontcha know.

New to the tree side of the biz

Welcome to fightclub James. Don't mind Treeslayer he really has your best interest at heart. I think you are doing the right thing by getting both a college education in Horticulture and some hands on experience with a local company. This industry kills people with alarming regularity...

    I made a horrible mistake.

Crystal clear for me Rope. It's good that we all share ideas on this sort of stuff. I cannot count the number of tips I have picked up from just this sort of discussion.
