    Beginners are scary

It struck me the other day while attempting to teach a relative newb to operate a chainsaw how much potential carnage is just waiting to ambush a new user. When I think back to my first few days I'm surprised I still have both legs all toes and 9.75 fingers.

Anyone know what happened to Gregg at LCS? Did he stay in the industry?

He was a good egg. I hope all the dramas didn't cause him to be lost to the chainsaw/forestry industry. Anyone know how he's getting on? Did he stay in the industry somewhere? Either way, I hope life's better for him with fewer schemers and more trustworthy peeps.

Anyone used the Pinch-A-Log lifting tongs?

Am thinking these might be the best option for rounds but am keen to hear/read from those who have used them and how they compare to pulp hooks, picker/hookeroons, lifting tongs, etc. Can anyone help please? This guy does a comparison:

Droneseed - seeding 40 acres a day with drones.

Saw this on TV earlier today and wondered how much of it is going on over there? One operator controls 15 drones flying a grid pattern, with each drone finding best place to drop the seeds. I went to the site to learn more https://www.droneseed.com/ where they say they are doing 40 acres a...

Best source for Oregon/Tecomec grinder hydraulic assembly kit?

Mine's leaking and it looks like it's going to be simpler to just buy a new hydraulic assembly complete. Does anyone know a good place to purchase from please? Ebay is a last resort if there's no better option. Thanks.

Supersplit owners: are there any carriage roller bearing options?

Hi all, For what they do, the original bearings work well, but mine occasionally seize up, need to be taken off, soaked in a heavy oil and worked to free up and run smoothly again. I can't see any other options than the one, on Supersplit's website. Has anyone found any other options that...

Is something up with Left Coast Supplies?

As of a few days ago when I checked, Gregg hasn't been on here since August last year, isn't returning my PM's, the site hasn't returned my recent email to them either. Is it just that overseas orders are not welcome any more or is LCS on their way out or? Anyone having any luck ordering and...

Forestry debris / slash causing damage in flood events

Some parts of NZ have just had some pretty serious rain and floods. There are a few areas where forestry slash swept off the hillsides and caused serious damage downstream. This isn't a new issue. Location, timing, slash sizes all played their part. What rules do you have in your area to...

Might be old news to you lot, but Subaru is out of the small engine game :-(

Was researching a new small engine only to find my favourite and super reliable brand is no more. Subaru's small engine/industrial power products division has closed, with Yamaha picking up a few of their patents.

    Want to Sell 266SE

Hi All, A farming friend here is thinking of selling his lightly used 266SE. It looks to be in good condition. He also had a 2100 in good condition that i helped him find a buyer for. He has turned down one offer of about USD150 but I think if the right offer came along he'd sell as he is...

What's the best 50cc saw deal these days?

Two friends are needing small saws, around 50cc. Typical homeowner/farmer sort of use. Typical tight-arsed Kiwi budget - looking for cheap as. I noticed Husqvarana 455's were on sale a few days ago. Maruyama used to have some cheap deals on Amazon but that's gone. What would you suggest...

How long a bar will a 261 cm v2 oil?

My MMWS 261 v2 is currently wearing an 18" bar but I'm wondering what's the longest bar it will oil. Might have to do some experimenting, but hopefully someone has already tread this path and worked it out. It's got the power for a longer bar but not much point if it won't comfortably oil...

Whats a good condition 266XP worth please?

There are two, one is XP the other SE. The XP is in great condition, the SE good condition. I've run both recently. Both owners would consider selling off and buying something new but none of us are sure what they are worth. Any help appreciated.

For those felling WRC, here's what nearly NZ$900 of it looks like.

Just bought 5 lengths of lumber for a pergola extension. $880! Ever wonder if the closer we get to the retail end of the supply chain, the higher the margins charged and the primary producers are getting a raw deal compared to the retailers?
