    Deciding on a new saw

Interesting...everything I seem to watch/read says the 462 way out cuts the 361. If i went 400 or 462 i think i would sell the 361 as i agree they are 2 close to justify the 2 saws. If i went bigger i would keep the 361. Im currently on a 1 saw plan. Only other saw i have is an old 018c that...

    Deciding on a new saw

Interesting suggestion. I keep debating a chainsaw mill. This would make the most sense if I wanted to end up with a mill. But more than I would like to spend. However, with lumber prices right now being able to mill some boards for a couple deer blinds I want to build might make sense.

    Deciding on a new saw

I have had a MS361 I bought new for many years, probably 04-05. Run it mainly with a 20" bar, I have a 16" as well when I want to put it on. I cut firewood mainly, and live on 35 acres of woods plus my dad owns 90 more acres of hunting land so I do a lot of work there as well. Lately I have...

Best quality with best Price Splitter?

Have had a 22 ton from TSC for about 5 years. I dont use it a ton. Probably split about 4 cord a year with it. Mainly in cool/cold weather. No issues with it at all. All i have done is change the engine oil a few times. I am not a huge fan of the BS engine on it...its loud and a bit finiky...

Sounds logical...then I realized he was serious

I also have made it a habbit to check my muffler bearings on the time change days. Im surprised Stihl doest put a little thing on their saws that you flip from normal time to DST like the summer/winter shutter. Then that would cut back on the confusion of resetting the internal sprocket clock.

For you guys that trailer your splitter...how in the heck do you get it secured?

I had them running down to the sides of the trailer to my stake pockets. Will need to figure out how to get a ball or receiver on this thing.

For you guys that trailer your splitter...how in the heck do you get it secured?

I didn't intend to cause a fight here guys. I don't have chains and binders as I don't haul anything that needs it. Better straps will happen...but that shouldn't be my problem. This last time I just cant figure out how they loosened. I had 4 straps on it all pulling toward the trailer...

For you guys that trailer your splitter...how in the heck do you get it secured?

Im using ratchet straps. But i think i need to get better straps. I seem to go through straps fast because it seems like most stuff i haul tears them up. Which is the reason i am using 4. It seems like if you dont use the hook to attach to things the straps fray very quickly if rubbing on...

Finally cut some wood this weekend. Is this hickory?

Im pretty sure that all in the picture is from one tree. It is possible that the smaller stuff to the left is one that came down with it though. I dont recall now. THe big stuff all split clean. It seemed hard though. The splitter would hit it and it would take a couple seconds then bang...

For you guys that trailer your splitter...how in the heck do you get it secured?

Everytime i have to trailer my splitter i have to stop a couple times to adjust straps. Is that my first problem? Cheap straps? I normally put the jack up and set it down on the ball coupler with the foot in the air. Then i run 4 straps to the diagonals. Never fails...something loosens and...

Finally cut some wood this weekend. Is this hickory?

It could be. Before i started cutting i thought it was maple. But, then such dark heart wood threw me off. Im no expert thats for sure...it very well could be. Im not too proud to admit it! It didnt have much of any odor to it at all so it could be maple.

Finally cut some wood this weekend. Is this hickory?

Finally got a chance to get to a tree that came down in the wind a couple weeks ago at our property. Is this a hickory? I was thinking pignut? I really wasnt sure...hickory's always throw me (except for shagbark). I thought i got a close up of one of the splits but i guess not. Got it cut...

Do I need a bigger tractor to haul wood?

Ha the pics are awesom. Very impressive actually. Betting it would be a different story here in the hills though. And...its the downhills that would scare me!

    Atv Chainsaw mount

I think you should be alright. The base bracket is made to mount to a rod type ATV rack, or the composite kind. Its got several holes. They have a bar clamp, but i dont know how big. But even if supplied bar mount wont work there are holes drilled in the bracket that looks like you could...

    Cotten wood????????

I cut one once. It stinks...first of all, literally. Rounds are heavy and literally wet...dripping wet when the splitter wedge hits them. terrible splitting stuff...bark comes off and its soaked under the bark. Just gross wood. I split it up and didnt get to it that winter. I just burnt a...
