Does this look like 7 cord (log length) to you? Or did I get gypped?

Get it split and stacked, then if it's short, show the guy. It's a possibility, in fact a probability, that he intended for you to get what you paid for, and will make it right. By the same account, if when you get done it's dead on, or even better, a bit over, make sure you let him know that too..

    Fiskars Splitting Axes

My buddy has the one from lowes, hasn't swung it since he got his SS. I have split a ton of black walnut, did fine, my brother has done some osage down in Texas, he loves his SS...

    calculating wood by the log

The only way to tell a fair price is for YOU to know how much cut/split/delivered firewood costs WHERE YOU LIVE. Then use the charts referenced above to determine how many tons are there to the cord. Then you will know the $$ difference and must decide if the bucking splitting is worth the...

    Fiskars Splitting Axes

I think 40 to 80 inches may be a bit different then 28 to 36, but yes , it will take the same amount of energy to accelerate x weight to x speed. The mass that needs to be accelerated has not changed. 100 lbs on the end of a 8 to1 lever will apply twice as much lift as 100 lbs on the end of a...

    Fiskars Splitting Axes

I think maybe this is wrong.. If you are swinging the shorter axe with "x" energy to achieve an axe head speed of "y".. lets say 200fps. With a longer handle, still swinging at "x" energy and achieving 200fps at the 28" point on the handle, the axe head is now 8 inches farther out in the arc...

    calculating wood by the log

A cord of green oak goes between 4900 and 5500 lbs.. depending on actual oak species... $125 or so a cord, I guess it depends on where you live.. I can get mixed hardwood delivered cut split for $135 a cord..

The Psychology of Heating with Firewood

Here is a little note on the psychology as it exists in my home.. last night watching the news, the weather man pointed out that we are in for huge warming spell.. ie: Thursday nights low was 0, but next Fridays high will be above 70.. and she complained. Why? because along about Monday I...

The Psychology of Heating with Firewood

Probably true for many.. For us, living in an all electric home in an area with very cheap rates ($.103 a Kwh, total, taxes and all) If we bought wood there would be almost no monetary savings, some but not a lot. But we get our wood from our 12 acres of hardwood, so it's mostly just time and a...

how do you know how much creosote has built up?

Warm day, stove cools.. look up pipe with mirror. If it were to look bad (hasn't ever) would then go on roof and clean it. I try not to make to many extra trips onto roof.. I am not exactly scarred of heights, but 3 stories and 10/12 pitch will keep you cautious..:msp_blink:

Stihl 041 AV clutch removal problem

Will creosote form from wood wet with snow and ice?

Doubtful, surface moisture is NOTHING compared to internal moisture as far as how much moisture is going to have to be dealt with during the burn.. As far as frozen or surface wet wood, we bring in a days worth and let it sit inside for a day or so before loading into the stove, dries, and thaws...

The Psychology of Heating with Firewood

My brain doesn't "see" the shrinking wood pile I am using this year.. It "sees" the growing wood piles for future years.. Trying to be at least 3 years ahead by the end of this spring.. If my brain starts to wrap up around the "loss" of this year's wood, I just peer at my electric bill...

    Controlling dust

My wife states that the dust from the wood stove is way less then from our previous open fire place. We live in the woods, with two large indoor outdoor dogs.. if dust was all we dealt with we would be pretty happy..lol

    Fiskars Super splitting axe review

Yep, wedges and sledges are no longer in my vocabulary. In the last 4 cords I split and stacked, I took the chainsaw to about 4 rounds, oak, cherry, walnut, maple and poplar, some rounds up to 40" all cut 20"long. and edited to add.. the Stig just like the SS, ROCKS!!!

That's a good deed right there. And the "pee rule" is dead on. Having your own woodlot, with your house dead in the middle, rocks.

    Towing splitter+ cops???

It's human nature to EXPECT to be treated fairly. It's human nature to be upset when you get the shaft from those who have been given power and they abuse it. You are not supposed to get the shaft from a LEO. Ever, and if it happens it SHOULD be shouted from the mountain tops. EDIT: I...
