How do you old salts deal with poison ivy?

Side note - cortico-steriods can increase blood sugar in diabetics. I've got poisen ivy on a tree in my yard, I sprayed it and everything above where I couldn't reach still lives on. What's the best way to kill it?

cutting logs that are larger than your bar

Regarding kick back, I always try to position myself so that if it does kick back my head isn't in the path of where it's going to go. All I have to to is envision the thing popping back and hitting me right between the eyes and remember to I move my head to the side.

Value Craft wood lathe model 8232 info needed

I know nothing of lathes so feel free to ignore me, but personally, any tool brand with the word "value" in it can't be that great. But for $150? Why not?

Good lord that's a big chunk of oak. I'm an idiot when it comes to such big stuff so don't laugh too hard, but do you have enough room to roll the logs after you buck it? You could quarter it by hand or with the Haddon and still get some 40" plus slabs.

    Sawing Out 2x12-14's

Makes sense. So depending on where and how deep, you may or may not turn it.

    Sawing Out 2x12-14's

I'm a greenhorn so don't be too hard on me, but why did you turn the log after finding the ants?

Who's Responsiblity? Me or the Town?

Where I'm living, if the power lines are threatened the power company will take the tree down for free. Might at least be worth a call to them.

Walnut Table w/ Oak Leaf Inlays

The leaf inlays are very cool. Do they help splitting like the bow ties? I don't like the way the bow ties interrupt the flow of the grain and inlays like this could be more aesthetically pleasing.

    You guys that burn hedge...

These off beat species are really the ones I want to get into milling. Maple and walnut are plentiful around here, and while they are beautiful, they aren't as interesting. Is there any convenient place on the web I can learn more about these?

    Moving logs

LOL. I meant they would not think it was so good for the highway. Looks great for around the farm.

Suggestions for drying logs for furniture

Is the problem with rounds splitting because of shrink rates are uneven or shrink amounts are uneven. If the rim shrinks more in the end then it will always crack. Since I'm thinking the direction of the shrinkage is along the ring and it is proportional to the length, then the outer edges...

    MS880 envy

Didn't ask about a 660. Going to go back again on Saturday. This would be used almost exclusively with the 36 inch Alaskan I recently picked up. I'm gonna see if they have a deal on a splitter, too.
