    GPS Mapping programs....need one.

That certainly used to be true. However, I am quite impressed with the new Garmin Rino (650 or 655). Myself (just got a 655) and my two sons (each have 650's) have them; bought them for hunting really. But - have never once lost signal due to canopy (moose and deer hunting); and have full...

State Won't Enforce 1919 Law Barring Some Tree Trimmers from Working in Connecticut

How would they collect state taxes, or even submit it? To submit you need to have an account with state I would assume. Bit of a boondoggle, but guess the state is in a bit of a bind and wants to get stuff cleaned up. I just got back from TCIA Expo myself. Went to show, saw the damage, but...

Single trip tree care/removal and stump unit

Agreed.. bit of a balance sometimes for some I guess.. but if you have the work to do, then do it and move on rather than driving half the day.

Yet another question regarding my bobcat

The key is to use them. Not sure why anybody would leave same attachment on for years :) Unless they only had one attachment. We are switching between buckets (more than one), grapples, blade, etc.. so we have had no real issues with ours.

Trying to decide on 70cc saw

Agreed; assuming dealer is good and has solid technical support.

Trying to decide on 70cc saw

You won't notice much difference; and the 372 is a better saw. The 460; which was on your original list; has about same power as the 7900. Where are dealers located; and are they good dealers. That is how you make final decision. Our Dolmar dealers are all rental shops or...

    Getting off the grid?

It did so. However they did not invent it; grid is a term that utility companies have used for decades (I worked for utility company from 1974 to 1992 and it was the "grid" long before then). (I think the railway used the term before that) It is essentially the interconnected network of...

    Echo CS-271 - Stihl MS200

Well, never have used a 271T; I had a 360T and still have a 330T. I can tell you that there neither the 330T nor the 360T come close to the 200T .. not even in anybodies wildest dreams. Any way you measure them they can not compare - durability - power - whatever. (I had a 200T run over three...

    Goderich Ontario?

My thoughts exactly.. why would they think that any professional service would volunteer their time and cost 100%? Even if the offered to do it at your cost it would go somewhere.. but asking you to dig into pocket and pay lodging and meals and fuel and maintenance .. Hmmm..

    Goderich Ontario?

Let me wheel bucket truck and chipper.. oh maybe even Bobcat and stump grinder and whatever else I can find over to pumps and see if this works. :) Realistically would cost likley $200+ dollars just to drive one way from here.. then the lodging and the fuel burned onsite with bucket truck...

Want to Build a SIMPLE Logsplitter. Any Ideas?

Depends on what you want; how much time you have and how much you enjoy this type of work. I looked at it a few years ago; mind you I was pricing mostly new parts.. and was almost same to build one as to buy one. So I found a good deal on new one and simply bought it. (have engine still as...

Would you allow access to small skidder to pull loads across your property?

Correct.. but if you do not know operator.. then not worth taking chance for only $100.

Would you allow access to small skidder to pull loads across your property?

Not for $100.. I wouldn't. Now if he is willing to pay the lawyer fees to get a contract written up; stating that all soil/terrain will be returned to original condition and any tree damaged outside of workzone (which would be specified) will be compensated for at $x.xx (you figure out)...

I market for leads get 15-20 a day. I want to learn how to sell the job, training

Does not surprise me.. guys who are good salesmen can learn the ropes on tree pricing. Yes they will miss some when learning; having them sit and observe a few jobs is good idea though. Learning the true time involved - as cleanup time is often the part missed when bidding is off. Does not...

I market for leads get 15-20 a day. I want to learn how to sell the job, training

I did know a company who used to price by the inch - maybe they still do. They had it something like $20 or $30 per inch up to certain DBH.. then went higher.. It apparently worked most of the time - so they said; and saved them money on estimates. Frankly I think you would overprice a...

    Bar oil?

Ah thanks for info makes sense to me. I was wondering how it was doing the job; as a lot thinner oil than the Stihl I use on all other saws. I still only use the Stihl oil in saws (other than if I happen to run out then will buy what I can find for one container). We use daily and...

    Bar oil?

Well; he was speaking of hydraulic oil. Now hydraulic saws are designed by the manafactuer to use hydraulic and ONLY hydraulic oil as the bar & chain lubricant. The last one I bought is an ADI; but has an Oregon bar and chain on it. Now the bars are short; perhaps 14 inches at best on most of...
