Question about selling some tree gear

Thanks, I was planning on selling the GRCS separately because it still has value just by itself. Your probably right about the other stuff . I'll probably end up just biting the bullet and get what I can for the stuff. It is just hard for me to let things go thinking I may need it someday along...

Is our job toxic to our lungs?

I would have to say that about any deadwood run through a chipper is bad news for the lungs. I didn't notice it so much when we had our smaller disc chipper but when we got a bigger drum chipper I could see the difference with dust hanging in the air around that chipper. The one tree that always...

Question about selling some tree gear

I have been retired for awhile now and have been doing some spring cleaning and decided to try and sell some of the gear later this year that I have been hanging onto. I have been out of the loop for awhile and really haven't kept up with what is new so to speak so I figured I would try and get...

Advice for Tree Fungus on 200+ year old Hackberry Tree

Look at pic #2 and the pic in your second post. That main crotch is an accident waiting to happen but also look at the two different shades of gray. The tree parts that have the lighter gray or off colored bark is where the tree has the dry rot. Those Hackberry trees are notorious for a...

    Eight Different Chain Sharpeners Tested

Funny this came up because I watched it this morning. PF does a very good job with his videos but his results are not to be taken as gospel in this video. I don't think the Oregon grinder got a fair shake myself. I don't think he has had much experience with that type of grinder. I myself would...

    Saying "No."

Well said. I hear you because I have been there. I don't sell wood anymore because I have retired and I don't miss it one bit especially during the winter. I only did it because it did provide a little money around Christmas time and did help pay the small bills during the winter . I always...

    Selling Saws in Lots

WOW , really . I dropped out of E bay a long time ago . Glad I did!! I see things haven't gotten better and going more and more down hill .

    25 saws for $200

I got better things to buy for 2 bills than that pile of junk. I'll never buy another saw that has been sitting outside or some ones damp / wet garage or shed.

    Does sharpening angle matter?

Excellent vid , loved watching it . Thanks for posting it Mike. Just to answer the OP question about top plate angles , not much difference between 30 or 35 degrees. I always liked 30 degrees for a work saw it seemed to hold an edge just a little better in dirty cutting conditions like stump...

    Bucket trucks in the cold

You might want to check your hydraulic filter also making sure it isn't plugged. My old boom truck was having the same problem sort of but it really wasn't that cold out and even after warming up it was still slow . I didn't have an actual hydraulic filter but it did have a very fine wire mess...

Stihl 020 av powering up problem

Trying to get the main nozzle out which also has the main check valve in it is a pain and not worth the effort . Try to locate another carb. Those saws were notorious for carb and intake boot problems. I really don't suggest this but you could try soaking the main body of the carb in a...

    It finally happened

It happened again. AAARGH! I finally had just gotten rid of the first mess that started this thread along with all the ground debris picked up so I could mow this small patch of woods with the tractor so I wouldn't have to do much so much backing up when I do the bush hogging in summer. I also...

    Project Farm tests chains

Thanks for posting this . I have seen PF vids testing other things but missed this one . He just confirmed what I suspected for years . Carlton makes a good chain but it is slow compared to Oregon or Sthil and it has always been a hard chain to sharpen for me and I could never get that Carlton...

Osage Orange limbs and trees dropped

Now that you tangled with a Hedge tree your ready to step up to another nasty Illinois tree that I hate worse than Hedge . This is none other than our infamous common Honey Locust with 6 to 12 inch thorns growing up the whole length of the main stem and large thorns sticking out of all the...

    Stihl FS-38 trimmer mystery!!!!!!!!!

Maybe your new coil and flywheel aren't compatible and spark is occurring at the wrong part of the cycle. Two things would happen if this is the case , big time flooding or the pull start would get jerked out your hand or be very hard to pull over . Why did you buy a new flywheel??? If your...

pole saw issue, low speed... gear reduction head?

I have one of those pole saws also . Just curious what you came up with for max rpm's at WOT??? I had to screw around with the carb settings several times on mine before I finally got it dialed in to get it where I liked it. It wasn't the cutting speed of the head but more getting that engine...

    FS120 trimmer repair

Check the ignition module for spark after it gets warmed up . I have been fighting with my 120 for the last 2 to 3 years with the same symptoms . I blamed it on the carb but after buying a new carb recently it worked flawlessly till I went to use it recently . Started right up but no...

    Poulan 3400 countervibe help needed

Crank bearings and seals is the first place to look for a possible bad air leak . The second place to look is the main nozzle check valve in the carb for gunk plugging that little screen over the valve itself. If the carb is bad most likely it is that main nozzle check valve.

Stihl 028 super rebuild went bad

I would say Old 2 stoke is making a good call. I don't think those old 028's turned much more than 10 to 12 thou at WOT. You really can't tune those older Stihl's like the newer ones . To me those older saws had a slight lag when you went from idle to WOT when you do get them set right instead...

Stihl 028 super rebuild went bad

What does the plug look like ??? It may give you a clue as to what was going on inside the engine. I remember this rebuild and I would say you covered all the bases but things happen . Kind of a crap shoot sometimes rebuilding these old saws . It is defiantly lean seized . Just one question ...
