    BCMA

They even give you a BCMA ribbon to wear on your name tag. They put your name on the screen and make you stand up at the opening ceremony. It a big deal man. You should be super proud. I bet you'll get more calls from your fins an arborist listing too.

    Ice storm vs pecan tree

How many barrier walls did Shigo identify? I believe your presidential term remark referred to wound wood/ callus wood/ wall 4. Other reactions (wall 1) are thought to start as early as hours after the tree is wounded. Also, there are no parenchyma cells in those 2x4's that I know of. I don't...

Congratulations! That is absolutely something to be proud of. It shows a different level of seriousness about your craft. Plus you get free breakfast at the international conference. :) Now you have to set a new goal.

climbing line as a second tie-in during removals

I agree that the Adjustable Friction Saver is the best way to work off of a spar. Very affordable. ART makes the "rope guide" which is used for the same purpose. Once I used an AFS I never went back.

Oak tree suckers/sprouts(?) from earlier pruning

I have to agree with the treeseer. Take one, leave one, reduce one. We call it "Sprout Management" or sometimes Restoration and we consider it an upsell as we charge more. No need to remove all of the sprouts. Sprouts are our friends. Extraneous (decay, decline, etc) circumstances excluded, of...

    Text book pruning

Different species tolerate different dosages of live tissue removed. The percentages cited in the standard should most probably be taken as a rule of thumb. If I had to prune a species that I was not familiar with I wouldn't take off more than 25%, especially if I don't know how well that...

    cut his lanyard?

ANSI z.133 This is why ANSI Standards say you shall be tied in twice while operating a chainsaw. Any of you guys ever use an adjustable friction saver or rope guide for working off of a spar? I swear by them. you can use this as either a second (120 ft) lanyard, or use it like a false crotch...

    I want in! +1st achievement

incredible! Sounds like this kid has passion. A fire in his belly. We could use more of this in the industry. Hopefully the bad advice given will inspire him to prove you wrong. We need to get more young kids in this line of work, train them up, and give them the knowledge they need to advance...

    is the tree safe?

doesnt necesarrily look like fungus to me. seems to be lichen at the base. column of decay should be investigated further with a drill bit or increment borer or something along those lines to see how much sound wood you actually have. establish a "sound wood ratio" to help make abatement decision.

    Rare Grafted Elms

Looks like a Camperdown Elm to me Look, i know i live in the subtropics, but i was just researching Camperdown Elm for certain scholarly purposes. Considering i have never seen one in real life (as we don't get many elms down here) it sure looks like a camperdown elm to me. Not positive, but...

    throw knot ?

ANSI Standards Hey Notch, Remember that technically, according to ANSI, you only have to be tied in with one rope untill you use a chainsaw. You then have to be tied in with two. When entering the canopy, it doesn't matter if you use a lanyard or a lifeline. If you use a split tail...

    Adjustable False Crotch?

I use an Adjustable Friction Saver on tall palms and spars down here in the subtropics. It is very similar to a regular friction saver except it has a prusik with an extra aluminum ring on it. It can be adjusted from about 4" to a couple of feet. I wrap it around the trunk or spar and it acts...
