    The Neighbors

Im not sure why someone would cut down a good tree. Then again, I thought my tree looked healthy until it split and leaned against the house. I can't say it really fell on the house as you could stand on the roof and touch the tree. the neighbors tree was dead. actually, the other two look...

    Price Gouging?

I'm gonna start with supply and demand... turn the receipt over to your insurer and let them :msp_w00t: That said, it was $1500 to remove a 48" cluster of hackberry trees off my roof a few years ago. *cluster of like 4 trees that had grown into essentially one large tree.

    The Neighbors

I thought about it after the tree fell the wrong way. Not even much wind out of the south either... For the most part, the rest of the neighbors are pretty good. These neighbors have some annoying habits. They moved in a couple years ago, so no one really knows how to take them yet. (I was the...

    The Neighbors

Earlier today, I heard a saw running. looked out and my neighbor across the road is taking down a dead magnolia. not a bit of PPE on. Not sure what model, but it was a Stihl. Farm hand, ranch hand, something like that is what I could see on the bar. Anyway, he cuts on the notch from a both...

    Reverse the wedge

should work the same. The only problem I see with it is this is going to put the wood sliding on the rail with every split. get a little dirt and grit on there, its going to wear. We may be talking years and decades depending on use, but it is additional wear..

I want my splitter wedge to move faster, any ideas?

A regenerative circuit is going to cut down on your ultimate force down to the cross section area of your rod. I would probably go to a smaller cylinder.

    welding questions

I dont recall seeing an answer to the temperature question. On carbon steel with 7018 rod for pressure vessel, we have a minimum initial temperature of 100F with a max of 500F. For your uses, if the material is cold, I would heat it till it stops sweating for 6 to 12 inches from the weld area...

I want my splitter wedge to move faster, any ideas?

Here's my thoughts do both have the same sized cylinders on it? what about hoses size and lengths? find the volume of the new splitter cylinder on the extend side. time the extend, that will give you a flow rate. does that flow rate match what the pump is supposed to be (are you loosing any...

    Just How Dangerous Is This?

Personally, I would just step up above the mess, fall it in the direction I wanted, then go back and cut the stump off at the level the previous person started....

    What's a decent bush knife?

thats pretty much my theory... I do like a bit larger of a knife for cooking use over a smaller folder. A knife isn't the tool for chopping or slashing, you can cut some small stuff, but there are better tools for the job.

    What's a decent bush knife?

I took the question as in addition to the folder that everyone should have in their pocket. Wallet, keys, folder, XD. I have three folders I select from depending on what pants Im wearing. My K-bar stays in my backpack that also has some other useful items. This backpack goes in the back of...

    What's a decent bush knife?

depends on your operating area. I would rather have my K-bar and a hatchet. the k-bar is small enough to work with, the hatchet for the chopping. In denser areas, a machete works better, but its too big to do detail work.

Where is the DOT when this guy comes down the road ?

the guy is on a side road/residential. I'll go with the assumption that he come out of the woods onto that road and never got out of the highway and never saw more than 30 mph. It really is a scary thought of that guy hammering down the highway at 70 with the tongue skipping off the road.

How not to cut down a tree.

I think the best part of the video is listening to the lady.. just the monotone, not excited voice, makes me think he's done somthing like that before...

How would you approach this (bucking big oak on hill) ?

if you have a flat bed trailer and can position the trailer downhill., just cut it up and let gravity load your trailer for you...

    Briging home the bacon!

thats all fine as long as you're not that guy doing 70 down the highway in front of me. Or your not that guy that I follow around town loading my truck from the wood that falls off his overloaded trailer everytime he hits a bump in the road. and please dont be that guy running around town with...

How would you approach this (bucking big oak on hill) ?

choke it, put the truck in 4lo and ease it up the hill... I wouldn't get after it very hard, 4lo is more for speed control than anything else. Then again, Ive only got a matchbox truck... whats the over all length?

    log splitter cylinder failure

I know people that do know what they are doing with NPT and they still over tighten them. or wrap a ball of tape around the end and get two threads engagement. I dont like NPT. Call your local prince hydraulics dealer and get a new end cap. the rest look good. Im going with my original...
