    Pole saw injuries?

I leave the scabbard on as long as possible, but once it comes off, then I try to keep the blade hanging around my leg or foot level, that way if it falls it won't rake across my neck or some other potentially life threatening area. If I have to hang it above my head then I hang it...

    Copper Sulphate to kill roots?

What's your point flushcut? Did you not like either the Garlon or concrete idea? If you don't, just say so, and then add your suggestions. Like the original post...it's just an idea. A jug of Garlon cost a few hundred dollars. Granted he won't use very much of the bottle, but he's already...

    Copper Sulphate to kill roots?

I've used Garlon 4 ultra with utility companies and it definatly killls small woody plants or prevents stumps from suckering back, but I don't know if it makes it's way through the grafted roots and kills other shoots that are not directly sprayed. To keep new seedlings from emerging you'd...

    Learn to talk

You are one of those with "two eyes and 10 fingers" and look where it got you on ********? You can say it doesn't bother you that you got kicked off that forum or how you got banned from this website a few weeks ago....but like the saying "two ears, one mouth". Your one mouth told me how you...

    Learn to talk

Listen good before you open your mouth and then be wise in what you say, is what I took from it. Of coarse he mentioned nothing about having 2 eyes and 10 fingers, therefore I guess it's anything goes on web forums????

My Father once told me, "God gave you two ears and one mouth, use them in that proportion".

black walnut veneer - what's the value of my logs

I don't know of any video, you'd just have to look or ask around. As far the market question? Generaly you find a buyer before you cut them down, otherwise somebody (whoever owns them) may be sitting on them for awhile, plus if you can't find a buyer you might as well let the tree grow...

black walnut veneer - what's the value of my logs

Ok, sorry for being defensive. I've seen foreign buyers bring their metal dectectors to mills so I agree with you...a good quality metal detector should have no problem picking up metal in the wood. For future reference in case you come across another good log. You might...

black walnut veneer - what's the value of my logs

The root flares are trimmed off after it's felled, giving you that "two turns" in pencil sharpner look at the butt. Matter of fact if they don't trim at least a little bit of the flare, then it won't load good on the truck unless you overhang the root flares off the front or back of the...

black walnut veneer - what's the value of my logs

I didn't say roots....I said root flare. Stump.....if it's not hollow then you're throwing away bf. Hill country....some of the logs come from the Ozarks. I've been ALL OVER Virginia and the grade on the ozark hills are just the same as Virginia....matter of fact so are some of the waddi's...

black walnut veneer - what's the value of my logs

I don't know what GOL means? "Don't notch and drop it", means exactly that. Dig out the dirt, especially inbetween the root flares....go to the side where the tree will fall and plunge cut as low as you can into the center....gut it out without cutting the root flares.....then cut the...

    Oh, I'm a fence crusher

LOL, I like that. Honestly, I'm gonna use that for now on :)

black walnut veneer - what's the value of my logs

I hear what your saying and that would pretty amusing, however $300 is better then nothing. Also you have to remember he's gonna sell it for a profit to the mill, then more then likely the mill with sell it to European or Asian buyers at a profit. I don't doubt that your log is veneer, and...

    Oh, I'm a fence crusher

In that case it sounds like you just got complacent, lost focus, and put your left shoe on your right foot. Don't know what to tell you other then I hope you figure it out and good luck.

    Oh, I'm a fence crusher

Was this your first time hitting something? I know some very experienced climbers....guys that have been climbing and doing tree work for 20,30 and even one guy in his 60's (Phil Cheatum in KC) that's had been climbing for almost 40 years and I've seen each guy mess up at least on a couple...

    Oh, I'm a fence crusher

Yep, he was in it and went for the ride. He pulled up right as I was backing and since there was a street lamp behind me, it drowned out his headlights so I couldn't see him. He said he tried to put it in reverse once he realized I was backing up, but instead panicked and put it in park...

    Oh, I'm a fence crusher

While not tree related, this should make you feel better. Last week while driving a semi truck, I backed into a p/u truck I didn't see come in from behind and pushed him back 20-30 feet. Didn't even make a mark on my trailer but caused $3800 worth of damage to his p/u. I had a tall load of...

Wealthy arborist's beauty queen fiancee kills intruder

That arborist is doing quite well for himself. Buying pizza's with $100 dollar bills, buying his wife a $60k ring, not to mention hooking up with a beautiful woman like that. Heck, I forget what the rest of the story is about.

too busy to take a lunch? Have a cold Burrito?

When I'm dong tree work, I have to eat something during the day or I'll get headaches and real fatigued later on in the day. Having said that, I try to stick with light stuff, like a banana, small turkey and cheese sandwich, and some crackers. If I eat heavy foods I'll get bogged down...
