    rain or snow

As far as urban tree work the rain definitely because of my current locale when it snows it is difficult to get around due to all the car wrecks. Then again in winter in the woods here the trees get loaded pretty good with wet snow and sometimes it can knock you on your butt when it comes out...

    Chipper Knives

Absolutely correct. Just having sharp knives isnt the whole solution.

    Rising cost

That's one of my favorites we are required by law to have insurance but many of us are "lucky" to even get it and pay higher and higher rates each year, and this is with no incidents.

    Rising cost

I'm still doing technical bids for one company He has me work the jobs but I dont know if he thinks about the fuel, time and the fact that he still needs my experience. And the funny thing is i have to figure the job tight because the competition isnt considering these or a lot of other factors...

    Rising cost

I now pay 2.46 a gallon for diesel now. That is alomost a 1.00 more than last year which means I'm spending 130.00 more a month on fuel, I,ve cut out about 800 miles a month of driving since then also. At what point do costs like this add up enough before the price of our work can go up? It...

    Why so high?

.050" tthat figures I got a 25' roll froom the local sawshop here he laid the pipe to me a little bit, trying to say his cost for a 100' was 290.00 I accused him of smokin crack.

    wedges in felling big'uns

What are you saying Erik, maybe this would not be the place for the "murphy" tapered hinge? Techdave, dont be to reluctant to use wedges on those snags, remember they are often pefectly balanced, if you wedge, tap lookup wait, tap lookup wait. Or if your from the east coast look in the direction...

    wedges in felling big'uns

Erik that looks like standard removal work by a proffessional, and your lay looks nice in the first picture, so with all those targets you size everything up and put yor face in the need to focus on your lead is not improtant, also your showing pictures that are a little diferent than timber...

    wedges in felling big'uns

I stick a wedge in on every tree except those favored to the lay, I rarely have to use my axe, a tap with another wedge sets it in the kerf and sometimes a couple more taps is needed, you are correct though. Thats why my axes are painted dayglo because often the axe is with the fuel and my pack.

    Thoughts on the MS660

I cut with guys out here that run nothing but 066/660 even ehrn the timber size warrants a lighter saw. They are dependable and cut silly between them and the 44/46 no other saws on the planet have put down more timber, that says it all.

100:1 killed only the best saw

Weimedog, the 100:1 was a f...up by a cewperson, my grammar did not convey that. I think 100:1 is crazy, I used to associate 100:1 with the weird Amzoil guys but as I said I like the Dominator and it isnt recommened past 60:1.

Maybe you run a saw differently than I Erik I've only been cutting for 18 years I can always learn something from folks just so far not from anything youve said on this topic, If you went in the woods with some of your technique I think you may modify things after a couple of days of poor...
