    Your brand of hand tools

Wrenchs, ratchets, and extensions are Snap-on. All sockets are craftsman. Craftsman ratchets are junk.

Opinions Please - Cut This Tree ??

If it was a friend of mine or a member of my family and they had no insurace, the answer is simple. ByeBye dear tree. They can't afford not to. Thinking otherwise is living outside of reality. After having gone through a hurricane, your thoughts on what is safe and what isn't changes...

Contractor unwilling to pay for work done

If they don't pay, put a lien on the property and walk away. The property owner will quickly square away the contractor. If not, you will get paid when the property owner goes to sell the property by law (no circumventing this). It's not worth the hassle and stress of playing the bill...

    Just one saw.........

020T. I don't like the new caps of the 200T. I don't climb well with an 044. Otherwise it would be 044 or an 026 on the ground. Don't have anything nice to say about Husky. So, I won't say anything.

Husky 372 xp vs. Dolmar 7900

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the 372XP was being discontinued and replaced with a heavier and weaker (hp) saw. But if it were me on the choice, since I have no dolmar or Husky dealer support I would get a MS660 if I were you. Getting the parts you need, when you need them is a big...

    upset with Stihl dealers

Sounds like a knee jerk reaction that he will regret when things get back to normal. If he expects the same type of service when these things happen, then he deserves what he will do to himself. Even though it would feel good in the short run, cutting off your nose to spite your face is stupid...

Husky 346xp or Stihl ms 260 I'm ready to buy now

Had nothing but trouble from the two 346 XP's I've used (oiler issues and chain tensioners). Had no problems with the the 260's. Both cut equally as fast when the 346 XP wasn't having an issue with something breaking. The 346 XP is just not a reliable saw. Sent two back to Eltrolux due to the...

    Most under-rated saw

056 magnuum. Big, ugly, and heavy. Though, Girly mean need not apply (no compression release). These beasts just refuse to die and are so simple a monkey with a crack habit can rebuild it with no issues. Makes a great back-up if every thing else sh!ts the bed.

    Most over-rated saw

With-out a doubt the 346XP. I've never been more disappointed in a saw after all the hype as this one. Gone through 2. Both had severe oiler issues. Also the Chain adjustment is plain annoying. I'll never own another. I rate them up there with the 335xp for plain POS. I take maas's opinion...

    026/260 pro or not?

Essentially same saw. The biggest thing to look for is the adjustable carberator. Don't get one with-out an adjustable high-speed jet.

Why do you hate the MS 280?

Haven't played with one yet. So, no judgement from me. I think stihl tried to fill a non-existent hole between the the 260 and 440.

Why do you hate the MS 280?

280 is heavy and weak (ie homeowner saw) My 041 S is a tank (last forever), but compared to todays saws the weight to pawer ratio sucks. My 260 will cut circles around the 041S and weigh considerbly less. The Stihl saws worth owning: 200T 260 440 460 660 The rest are homeowner saws...

MODs- wait for "break in" or not?

I do it from the get go, but I rebuild my own saws and could care less about the worthless warrenty.

    Overheated..

Been there, had that experience. Buy another jug and piston. If one is messed up, the other is as well. During the process, open up the muffler to allow it to run cooler. In all likely hood it was caused by the saw running lean, so you will want to look at that as well.

    just wont fall

MacDaddy, I don't know what you were trying to do, but it looks like you are trying to get killed. There is no hinge left or look to have one to start with. It can kick-back at any time. My advice hire a professional. If you can't bring your self to do that; wrap a cable around the base...

Which is better forged or machined?

Depends on the application: Forged = higher strength, but brittle ( will fail in a break or shatter ). Cast = lower strength, but dutile ( will fail in tearing ).

Husky 335 xpt with oiler problem

Replace the oiler. Also watch out for that spark plug cover falling off.

    Thanks for a good resource

What we need now that the thread has detorated is pictures from the ex-Seal climber of his coon killin with the saw again. You will have to pardon us. We will derail a perfectly good thread for no paticular reason around here.

Our border patrol at its Best!!!!

Amazingly enough when Virginia allowed CCW permits. Violent crime when down appreciably within 6 months. The antigun Nazis don't like to address that little fact.
