    The Beg for Manuals Thread

Kevin: thanks for the manuals. I always like knowing the correct part# . Certainly reduces the error factor and lost time shipping the wrong parts back. bob

    Boots

Scooter: how aggressive is the arch in your White's Outdoorsman boots ? I have a pair of the White's Smoke Jumpers and it has taken a while for my feet to get accustomed to their higher arch.

    NY Game of Logging Cert.

Goatchin: The Game of Logging classes are really worth the time and cost. They are focused on "safety"; using the saw, cutting the tree, limbing, bucking, etc. They do teach techniques and how-to's, but safety is the main mission. Anyone, whether the professional or the weekender, can...

Stihl 440 -- How much damage here ?

Thanks for the feed back. As Huskyman said, brown is good, but I thought the plug would be all brown. Lesson learned. Did everyone see how fast Andy rolled out of bed to clear up things with his....."HUH? looks perfectly fine to me...". Never too early, or too late, for Andy to help...

Stihl 440 -- How much damage here ?

Andy: I will take a look at the plug on my 361. Thanks for letting me know the two-color is ok; thought I had a problem starting.

    Festus: That's awful.....a $20 disposal fee.

Stihl 440 -- How much damage here ?

Andy: seems like all the pulgs I look at are the same on all sides. I thought the brown side was a sign of ring problem on the exhaust side.

Stihl 440 -- How much damage here ?

A friend showed me some pics of this saw. What should be done ? It had to be running pretty hot so could there also be some seal or bearing damage ? No pic to show, but there was some cylinder damage above the exhaust port. Nothing deep, but several noticeable spots. I do not know the saw...

    New Saw... 440

Just in case someone may have missed the small fine print of PA PLUMBER's post above: "I like the 440 better than the 441."

    New Saw... 440

PA: After I put the DP on my 440 and got it broke in, I find it a great saw to use. I tried the 8pin but found it was not a good match when using my 28" and cutting hardwood. I like the 440 more than my 441. The 440 air filter definitely collects chips, but the 441 seems bulky and does...

    New Saws

I thought the Stihl 461 would be announced this year? The 441 has been out over a year, and no problems. Seems like Stihl is brewing up something real nice for the 461; more power and getting some of the new-technology-weight down.

Buying 2 Stihls and would appreciate expert advice

Hugen: I would assume that anyone that has enough $$ to build that size castle, has enough $$ to buy the oil. I must complement you on using the price of oil to justify the need to buy more saws. Clever! You're safe, we never tell. You really need at least one small saw for the little...

    MS460 Spikes

Agree with Trigger-Time. Those are the same part #s I order for my Stihl's. The dawgs are much larger than the small ones that ship with the 440/460. Take a look at his pics and you will see the bottom spike to be lower & longer than the small factory ones, so my saws do not roller over as...

    Cloggin' up with noodles

Clearance: Just joking around a little. Friday=end of week. I put a 3/4 wrap on my Stihl 440 and know what you are talking about. I have a full wrap on a Husky so even more to hold on to.

How do you Get your Firewood out?

I need to cope with the hills, so I use a Gondo. Good machine, but I wish it had a diesel and larger bed. Oscilates & articulates.
