What the heck IS an EPA stove

EPA stove just think catalytic converter on your car....or air injection pump on the 1970-80's car like going to hell to light a cigarette to make an omelette one has to crack a few eggs to heat a house one has to make a little smoke.... and that's all I've got to say about that....

the first factory built prototype McGuire lava rock stove has been built, is installed, and the old one is being sent to EPA and UL for testing I told you fellas, this was not BS. These are going to be MASS PRODUCED and for sale nationwide if it proceeds as planned. The inventor has a...

    Firewood thievery makes Drudge Report

now they're stealing ROCK SALT here, and this is a young girl driving around taking it off the porches in Scranton, Pa. if this keeps up there's going to be muggings in the parking lot of the grocery store, to get the food...

    Anybody using Shenandoah wood stoves?

same basic box design with sheet metal cabinet, they move the draft control around depending on what brand or badge it was. but they are all the same basic stove, firebox, door layout.

    Firewood thievery makes Drudge Report

it's not nice to mess with someone's woodpile when it's below zero out.... post one of these on the pile...they'll get the message my buddy had a sign in his back yard that said "you're in range"

    Anybody using Shenandoah wood stoves?

here's the ones at Tractor Supply. Same stove. These have been around a LONG time. At least since 1960's. Yes the one I had, was starting to warp too, above the firebricks. Same as the Riteways that warp above firebrick. http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/searchterm/wood stove...

    Anybody using Shenandoah wood stoves?

there's a cabinet type Shenandoah for sale locally, and looking at the pics of it, that model is the same as the old Atlanta Homesteader that was in my house when I bought the place back in 1994. It had the sheetmetal outer shell with welded box contruction inside. That stove threw a LOT of...

If you had a choice - what size tree would you choose to cut

I would measure the opening in my wood stove door, and cut all the dead standing trees that were the size or smaller, so I didn't have to split them to burn it. Also cut all the leaners and dead fallen trees that size first, if they aren't rotted. Then go up in diameter from there, having to...

curious what wood can be used still part green

obviously locust and pin oak can be burned green, there's videos on youtube of a guy who invented the McGuire stove doing so in his backyard with one of the prototypes, and also burning it in his house in the other prototype. See the other thread I started on McGuire stoves. The inventor...

What is the best style stove, EPA, CAT, down drafter, one with a grate

the dirty little secret about EPA stoves is this- they tout 30% less wood consumption than a conventional old stove. the only way to get that, is with 30% less primary DRAFT. so basically they are smoldering the fire down lower and attempting to burn that smoke to clean up emissions, while...

What is the best style stove, EPA, CAT, down drafter, one with a grate

you would not want a campfire box in your living room of a $200k home, next to your sectional couch and curtains. that's a recipe for disaster. I want more than a piece of sheetmetal between my house and the fire in the box.

What is the best style stove, EPA, CAT, down drafter, one with a grate

I just went out and measured my Riteway 37. The walls are only .131" thick. If this is your idea of a top notch stove, then you should be happy with that. My Harman is 1/4" plate steel, if I shot it with my 45 ACP, the bullet would bounce off the side. There is something to be said about...

What is the best style stove, EPA, CAT, down drafter, one with a grate

here are my concerns with the Riteway bypass mode, it just doesn't seem to work sometimes ? Re: Hitzer 75 Coal Stove. By: Bruce M On: Sat Mar 02, 2013 9:11 am Rob R. wrote:Are you running the "direct damper" with the handle in the down position? (so the flue gasses go out the side of the...

What is the best style stove, EPA, CAT, down drafter, one with a grate

well that's the keyword, coal bed. it's difficult to maintain that coal bed, and lose it, it takes a day to build it back up again. I question the heat transfer of the combustion flue, it's relatively small and how much heat can it radiate ? many who have used those stoves, got more heat in...

What is the best style stove, EPA, CAT, down drafter, one with a grate

here is an interesting video. I would not wan to dish a couple g's for a new stove, that didn't heat. sure it may burn the wood efficiently, but that is only half the formula for net efficiency. the other half is heat transfer to the home. efficient combustion without heat transfer, means a...

    Riteway Model 37

sounds you have the slightly smaller model 2000 ? IIRC. it was wood burner only, grates that didn't shake, stationary grates. IMHO that one was a better wood burner than the M37. the combustion flue was located on the inside of the sheetmetal body, in the firebox area, instead of outside...

What is the best style stove, EPA, CAT, down drafter, one with a grate

the Riteway when first produced, had no cat. They only started putting that in very late in the company's life, around 1982. Why would you even want a cat ? The original stove design worked by simply injecting secondary air into the exhaust stream half way up the stove, from the mid-flue...
