    Would you climb this?

I would climb it without a doubt. Once you get 200-250 lbs out of it then your fine. That number would represent your weight. If its cracking on the way up you might want to re think it, but if that side is solid I would climb it for sure.

    Rope Bridges

I climb on a buckingham with the butt board and stationary D's, not sure what model, its blue and red, but I'm thinking about upgrading to a cougar maybe, what do you think. I sometimes climb on a split tail system with 2 caribiners or an eye in eye 10mm bee line with a swabishl.

    Rope Bridges

Just wondering what you guys use to tie into the rope bridges. I've seen guys use micropullies, just wondering what some other set ups look like. If anyone has any pics that would be awesome. Is there an advantage to a rope bridge than floating d rings

    over a well or septic

One one side of the house is a well with a dead white oak about 20' from the cap and on the other side is the septic system with a dead white oak and a quickly deteoriating white pine right over it. There are at least 6 white pvc pipes coming out of the ground there. I guess I can rope...

    over a well or septic

Anyone ever fell a tree around a well or septic system. I have some work that is around both and I'm just curious as to whether or not they would be damaged. I'm not familar with how deep these things go.

    Rigging Training

I have done residential work on the side and had to swing limbs and what not, but I'm looking to step my game up. Everything adds up, when all you do is climb to the top of a tree and cut all the limbs off one side everyday for ten hours you don't get much rigging done. My thread was about...

    Rigging Training

I have worked for Asplundh now for 3 years doing right of way work. 95 % of the climbing I have done has been side trimming (taking all the limbs from ground to sky off, no overhangs). I have done very little rigging and roping. I am wanting to learn how to rig a tree down. Is there any formal...

    double d rings

I have never used a saddle that has double floating d rings, but I have often wondered about them. Do you have to tie into both floating d rings or can you tie into only 1 and use the other for a lanyard? Don't bash me for this one, but I'm only curious. By the way what type of saddles is...

    apple trees

I started 4 apple trees from seed in October. I have them in pots in the window seal and they are about 4" tall. I was wondering what I can do to make them grow taller. I want to put them in the ground this spring, but I don't think they will be ready and I dont have enough room in the window...

    land clearing help

Where I'm from here in maryland, the builder takes care of the stumps. We just cut the timber, stack the logs, get a burn permit and burn all the brush. With the equipment you have your looking at a week maybe a week and a half tops. Definitely use the excavator to do the stump work if you must...

    Eastern Hemlock lightning strike

The pictures tell me that thing needs to come down especially if it is near a house. I enjoy big trees as much as anyone, but if it comes between putting someone's life at risk and taking it down, I'm taking it down. I have seen plenty of storm trees that look perfectly healthy and the get a...

Asplundh bucket trucks, that bad ?

the rack behind the driver side probably at one time had hooks on it to hang gear..ropes, saddles etc and the pins are for pinning the truck up for extra protection. Those trucks are nice trucks and your right about the lotto tickets....its the only way out!

Asplundh bucket trucks, that bad ?

I currently work for asplundh now and have used and ran their equipment. I can say this, they don't get the maintance they deserve because its all about production with utility work. they get worked every day and maintained little. We get a yearly bucket inspection and oil changed every 3000...

    Felling saw...best size?

We have used the 365 husky for years for cutting brush to felling 40 inch trees and limbing as well, even in a tree. Great saw, highly reccommended. The 372 is a beast will turn a 20'' bar like its nothing. We have recently went to the 570 husky and it took a little while to grow on me, but it...

    cutting co-dominate stems

Because I also climb, I thought about seeing if there is a tree close by that I could tie into to cut them where the split, this would allow me to swing out of the way in case something would go terriblely wrong. The one that is leaning hard definitly will tear the neighbors yard trees to heck...

    cutting co-dominate stems

I have been cutting for sometime now and I haven't ran into this situation yet until now. I have a white oak that forks about 5-6 feet up and both leads are approximately 25 inches. What is the best way to cut them safely. I thought about throwing a buckstrap around it and spiking up there, but...

    Lot Clearing

Thanks for all the imput. I do know someone with a skidder, but I figured if I could do it by renting a bobcat for the day then it would be cheaper.

    Lot Clearing

I have a customer who wants 1-2 acres cleared for a view. I personally have never done a job this large, so I don't know where to begin. The land is moderatley sloping. I have a big husky that I plan to use for the job. What do you think would be the best way to get the wood out of the woods to...
