Sycamore and probably a red oak

    Tulip poplar score

At least you got it after sitting for a while. When poplar is green it is unbelievable how heavy it is. When it sits foa few months, it seems to loose at least half it's weight.

    Let's See Some ID

No doubt that is it. I wouldn't pull it out of the ditch to burn. If I have to pick it up to move it, I'll burn it then. Otherwise let it rot

    which splitter?

The Huskee's wheels are out of the way. The MTD has the wheels right where you'd be standing

    firewood saws

I have Husky 346xp and a 372. I rarely use the 346. Sure it's a ton lighter but even in smaller stuff the 372 with a 24" bar beats bending over all day to limb with the 346 and a 16" bar. I'm 42 years old with bad joints. Even with that, I would rather go with more weight and MUCH more...

    Woodmaster 4400 Overheating

Another suggestion on the damper door. Could there be some build up on it letting the wind force air in?

    Wood's running out! question:

Can't tell you whether in Israel that is a good price for coal or not. Doubt whether many on this site really can. Bring all the wet wood from the fields in you can. Rain will dry off the wood quick.

    furnance running too long

Besides not getting enough water through the coils, maybe the furnace isn't set at a high enough temp. Water could be cooling so much through the coils that it takes the furnace extra to heat it back up. Yesterday I was splitting next to my Hardy. I noticed it would kick on every 30 min...

    Disappointed With Speeco Customer Service

In any business an email is a lot easier to ignore than a phone call. When a quick email won't resolve an issue, most times a nice phone call will. It is hard to believe a call to someone with authority, the customer service rep isn't a person of authority, can get this simple issue taken care of.

Looking for used forced air wood furnance....good ones to look for?

Insulating a new build is relatively cheap compared to a couple extra cords a year. If you insulate well you will never think of that aspect of the build. If you skimp on insulation to save a couple hundred bucks, you'll think about that every winter burning wood and every summer paying the...

    Home made firewood processor.

Maybe when I'm older, with a worse off back than now, I'd develop patience to use that.

Huskee/Speeco 22T won't start in the cold (even mild cold)

Mine did the same thing last winter before I replaced the Briggs with a cheap Harbor Freight Honda knock off. Mine would fire for 2-3 seconds and die. If I kept priming it for that 2-3 seconds (for 20-30 seconds) it would then keep running. I think there was an air leak around the air filter...

    Outdoor woodstove guys...

Burn my H4 165/175. House is about 3000sq ft at 72° in day and 67° at night. Heating dwh also. Set lower doesn't seem to save any wood (maybe forced air takes longer to heat house because of lower water temp so stove burns longer) and set higher just burns more wood with no better results.

Help on most efficient way to do this job.

Normally these ditches and fence rows don't have the best of woods. Unless you get into locust. But free is free. If you can drive right up to the logs, that kind of free is even better.

    Huskee 35 ton log splitter

Over the summer there was a 3 year old 35ton Huskee on craigslist for $700. I couldn't work the 2 1/2hr drive into my schedule for a few days so it was gone before I could get there. Picture looked like it was hardly used. I was going to buy it and sell my 22ton Huskee for the same $700...

Black walnut? If so best way to mill please..

I was thinking the same thing because of the bark. Sassafras. I don't ever remember cutting into a sassafras so I don't think I have any idea what the inside looks like. I've seen dried boards of sassafras and they aren't as dark as walnut, kinda brown like some hickory. Bark really looks...

    100lb cylinder/back up

Rid myself of the 500 gal tank 2-3 months ago. I now have two 100# tanks. Use for back up heat, cook stove, and back up hot water. I figured I use about 80 gal a year, so about four 100#tanks a year. Haven't had a problem yet but I did worry a little that one tank would go empty cooking...

My furnace blower is on 24/7 through the winter. Keeps the entire house about the same temp, even in back rooms.
