    Chainsaw Files

I went into the local Stihl dealer, and all they had for flat files were made in India. The round ones were still from Germany, and not too bad at $2 each. What's a good source for flat files? The one that came with my Stihl filing kit is pretty terrible as well.

Decoding Stihl Bar Numbers, What's Compatible?

My dad has a 025 that I've been working on for him. It needs a new bar. The stihl chart recommends a 3005 000 4713 for a 16" bar. Now the bar on my MS290 is also a 16" but is a 3003 002 7013. What's the difference? Does it matter? As a side note, with all the dead saws out there, you would...

    Stihl Aftermarket Parts Review

I need to replace the fuel line, impulse line, filter, and intake boot on a 025 Stihl for my dad. Are all of the aftermarket parts about the same, or should I stick with a particular seller? Is there an online seller of OEM parts? Locally, they are very very expensive for even basic parts.

stihl 024AV .... rebuild or leave it alone ?

They are a great little saw. I find myself using mine more than the larger saws for most limbing and bucking work.

    Church group gets a donation

I'd say that you should call them up, or stop by, and tell them that they need to return the wood they stole or you will call the police. That was theft, plain and simple.

THOSE OF US THAT HEAT WITH WOOD,DO YOU USE A HUMIDIFIER? WHAT SIZE AND KIND?

I have some pots of water on the stove that have to be refilled a few times a day. It's still only about 20% humidity in the house. I dug out the humidifier with the fan and wicks last night. This morning the humidity was around 50%. It was too dry, and my wife was having trouble with it being...

    Wood Stove Heat Distribution

I've been using a small clip on fan from walmart that seems to work reasonably well in moving air down the hallway, and into the bedrooms. Place it so that it's near the top of the doorway in the warm room, and it'll push warm air.

    Stove at Full Throttle

It's -20 with the wind chill, and the poor stove is running full tilt. Time for new windows this year I guess. The 14" that they promised didn't happen, but it's cold enough. How is everyone else holding up?

    A Wood Cutting Poll!

I cut in spurts. Mostly in the spring and fall. I don't typically do any cutting in the winter or dead of summer.

Santa brought me a Fiskars X27

I have one, and I like it. It's lighter than a 6lb maul, but splits about as well. If you have oddball or hard to split stuff, it's not the best thing to use. For reasonably straight pieces, it's great. Like any tool it has it's advantages and drawbacks. Keep both around, and switch off as...

    Dumb question on firewood

We get quite a bit of rain in the fall, and snow in the winter. Anything that isn't covered tends to be soaking wet. That's been my experience here in Maine.

Do you have any pictures? What did you use to hold the tiles down? Regular tile cement?

    Custom Sized Hearth Pad

Is there a place to get a custom hearth pad that is 56"x56"? Can I use a couple of the smaller rug style ones and put them together? Does the seam need to be sealed with something?

So, How Much You Burnt Since AS Got Hacked ?

I've burned a few loads, but not all that much. It's just now getting into the 30's at night.

    What do some people expect?

Everyone wants something for nothing. I wouldn't worry about it. If your prices aren't fair, you would be stuck with a bunch of wood at the end of the season.

    Still no wood!!

I'm in the same boat, although I do have wood left over from last year. Just keep at it what you can. It's just now getting cool enough to even want to think about splitting wood. :D

What do YOU use for tarps?

I've been using the heavy duty brown tarps from Lowes. I still need to build a wood shed though, but these work ok. I tried heavy plastic, but it tends to get brittle when it's cold, and breaks.

    Thought it was Hype

I have one and it's a great splitting tool. I wouldn't say it's more effective than a standard maul, but it is much lighter. So, you won't get tired as quickly. One thing though, make sure you're splitting on a stump or block. They don't like dirt at all. Regular mauls are pretty forgiving...
