    Troy-Bilt 27-Ton 160cc Log Splitter from Lowes

Um, heating my house. Just like the majority of people in the western united states who heat with wood.

    Troy-Bilt 27-Ton 160cc Log Splitter from Lowes

FWIW, I bought a 27T Troy Built from Lowes about 5 weeks ago, and the welds around the trunions are a whole lot more substantial than the ones in this pic. About 1/4" to 5/16" more bead around them. I've split 6 cord with it with no issues.

    Glove mileage

;) I usually go through 3-5 pairs a season cutting and splitting.

    Troy-Bilt 27-Ton 160cc Log Splitter from Lowes

One of my reasons for buying the Troy was the fact that there just aren't many dealers selling anything else around here. It's 50 miles round trip just to the Lowes. The Husqvarna/ Stihl dealer doesn't handle any splitters.

    Troy-Bilt 27-Ton 160cc Log Splitter from Lowes

They're $1299 (here anyhow). 2 year warranty. The guy at Lowes told me to bring it back to the store if I had any issues.

    Troy-Bilt 27-Ton 160cc Log Splitter from Lowes

I bought one last week. I've split about 4 cords of pine with it, and it works great as far as I'm concerned, but I've always split my wood by hand up until now.

    Truck Deal?

FWIW, the cabin filter was dropped in '02 or '03 and up....They don't have them any longer. My '01 has it, my Dad's '03 doesn't

    Picky picky...

I have two separate stacks in the house, too. One is nice, straight splits for overnight, and the other, not so straight, sometimes pithy, stack (in a wood box) for the daytime/ new fires.

    Best splitting maul

 I don't know. Mine works well. I split about 5 1/2 cords a season with it..

    You smell like chainsaw

Once in a while I get "the look" when she finds saw chips in the laundry. I just ask her how warm she is in the winter, and remind her that all that split wood doesn't just appear. She must think it just grows on trees...

    Dutchwest combustor question

Yeah, I already read that thread.;) Thanks. Right now I have one of my old, shorter thermos and the new Condar longer thermo in the oven to see if I can compare...Not sure how they'll do in the oven being probe style...

    Dutchwest combustor question

Wow. OK. My new thermo is 1 5/8", and 2000* is common.

    Dutchwest combustor question

How long is your probe thermo? And what kind of temps do you see?

    Dutchwest combustor question

I guess I'd like to hear someone else with the same stove tell me the baffle under the cat glows on theirs too...:)

    Dutchwest combustor question

The claim was "platinum or palladium", just like all the others.. Thanks for your help, I do appreciate it.. There's a nice bunch of folks here.

    Dutchwest combustor question

Seems like if there were a substantial air leak, it would be apparent when I shut the primary air down, but I can pretty much kill the fire by closing it all the way down.

    Dutchwest combustor question

This cat. is from The Log Rack (they have another name). Sand Hill Manufacturing IIRC. It has the same 6 year prorated warranty as the one from Vermont... My Dad just installed one of the Condar steel cat's in his (he has the small dutch). I'm curious how that one will work.

    Dutchwest combustor question

Yep, checked the damper. I had replaced that gasket last year, and it's good. Damper adjusted, closes tight. The firebox doesn't overheat, just the combustor. I tightened the latches on the ash door and side door, and it's behaving now, but like said, there's not much wood in it right now...
