    Jotul stove in action

Firelight 600 being used to dry the paint on a hub for a motorcycle wheel. Note that both the woodburner and the hub are the same color, a dark hunter's green. I love this stove. It was a replacement for an old "EarthStove" we had for years and years. Our burn rate dropped by about half with...

how much will a pickup hold

I figure our truck to hold - as I load it - about 2/3 of a cord or maybe a little less. In saying that I also want to tell you that in the last three years I've had to replace two rear springs that I've broken in my SuperDuty (3/4 ton). Yep, I broke them and I only move the wood on my own...

    Wanted to buy Firewood logs

Are there any saw mills near your home? If so go park your truck at the entrance and just ask as logging trucks make deliveries. You'll find someone who will sell you a truckload. You may need to find a way to lift the logs off the truck (quickly) though.

    Huskee 35 ton Re-power

Just as a general engine replacement recommendation I have found the answer for me for any future replacements I might have to do. Last year I had to replace the engine on my rototiller. It used to have a B&S 7hp horizontal shaft engine. I bought a Subaru-Robbins engine for it and installed...

    Wood Hauler Pics

PoorboyPaul, I am very happy with it. As I said, my son is building a house and the thing has been a real godsend so far. I would buy one again in a heartbeat. Oh, my next-door-neighbor has a Kubota of similar size, not sure what model it is but its about 3 years old and he stood awestruck...

Yep, 4-wheel-drive and also has a rear differential lock that you can engage with your foot. Very handy when it gets good and slippery.

36" Pallet Forks on a John Deere 2520 We can lift and carry up to 1,100 pounds with the forks. We generally cut logs in the woods, pick them up and carry them either to our trailer or to the log stack, which is two long poplar trees laid side by side on top of which we stack all of our logs...

What's this old Oak have to be happy about?

No saw mill involved, this is all destined to be firewood for 2013.

What's this old Oak have to be happy about?

There wouldn't be a smile on my face if I was setting in the log pile waiting my turn at the saw:

Tell me why or why not to put a tarp over my woodpile.

I just got finished cutting, splitting, and stacking next year's firewood. Wish I was farther ahead, but I'm not; this is what I've got and this is what I have to deal with. I've got 16 pallets under the wood in a 4x4 patern (the pile is 16' square), then tightly stacked 5' high. Its stacked...

    Tire pressure

The pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire is the Maximum pressure allowable with that tire if its mounted on the right rim. lt isn't usually the best pressure to use for day to day driving, but its usually not to far off from it either. What I have found tends to work best, particularly...

Mailorder or Net Source of Jotul Parts?

I'm sort of nowhere near any of those places - in a way. I'm to the east of Morgantown, about half way to the Maryland line, but higher up. The closest dealer is in Oakland, Maryland, and then there is one on the way up to Pittsburgh. The Jotul site says there is a dealer in Elkins too, but...

Mailorder or Net Source of Jotul Parts?

Does anyone know of a source of Jotul parts for current models other than going to dealer? I am in need of replacement side door latch parts, the spring in mine is missing (disintegrated with parts long lost) which is annoying if not a functional problem. We just have to be careful to be sure...

Where is the best place to reduce a flue size from 8" to 6"?

You all's comments have really got me thinking. If I have to shove twenty feet of pipe down my chimney with a 90 on the end I'll do it, its not like it would be that hard to do or cost all that much. I just don't think it will be necessary. Maybe my thinking is wrong but it seems to me all...

Where is the best place to reduce a flue size from 8" to 6"?

According to the Jotul manual for the stove (F600) the largest acceptable size for the flue is 8"x12"; I am presuming they know what they are talking about and I am within their specifications. My question is this - is it better to make the pipe part of the run 6" or 8" because that's as far...

Where is the best place to reduce a flue size from 8" to 6"?

I've got an 8" flue, horizontal ceramic pipe through a block wall into a ceramic lined chimney, 12"x8". Everything is sound. My new stove has a 6" flue outlet so I need to use a reducer. My stove sits just a little under 24 inches below the 8" diameter inlet to the chimney so its not problem...

    wedge use help

The skinny end goes in the slot, you pound on the thick end. The force exerted by the wedge will push the tree in exactly the same direction as the wedge points. Its not a whole lot different that driving a nail, you shouldn't need to read a book to figure it out.

    Wood delivery today

I don't know why but - and this is about the original post, not the sidetrack its got off to - it seemed to me that maybe what the guy was doing was getting some good seasoned wood to tide him over as they got to work making their own wood for next year and beyond. Did I misunderstand? I...

Putting a blower on a Jotul wood stove

My wife and I bought a used Jotul F 600 the other day, it hasn't been picked up or installed yet. It will be here next week. I am aware that dealers can get a blower attachment for it and I believe one would be good to have. it is my understanding that they run somewhere around two and a...
