    Smoking deal on an MS-880

That listing is on the Nashville CL too. Someone needs to buy the dam thing in their area. Poor guy has way to many and need some of his money back. As much as I wish I had a few dozen or so in thr shed I understand selling one or two to pay the rent. It is sad how easy it is to screw a...

    Compost site treasure

That sounds all good and well but a 4 foot bar is big $ and hard to keep oiled and takes a big saw to pull. Better just to get a 32 or 36 and free hand the cut then turn and finish. I have done this and it works good. Just my .02 cents though. jnl

Busy last 2 months! (pic heavy)

I agree, one of the best treads in a while. It makes me wonder if not much milling going on or nobody is taking the time to post their endevers. Allthough I can,t say much as I have not been doing any milling myself. I had to rebuild the muffleron my 930 J-red and took pictures of the reworked...

Chainsaw Dyno rework finally complete and ready for some mod testing.

My hats off to you sir. Nice work on the dyno. It has crossed my mind a few times about a saw dyno but not a need for one here. A buddy of mine has a performance motorcycle shop here and has a dyno for bikes. I have helped him some when he is behind and helped dyno several hundred bikes over the...

    New CS Mill build

Great tread everyone. Lots of good info and you can nevrer get enough learning how to get a chain in shape. Also if it has not been said a semi-cheisel will keep the cut from haveing gouge lines for the most part completely. I also have my mill to slide on my guide on every cut and make a 1"...

    Enough

Sorry to hear about your down sizeing. Hope things are better now though and work is good. Having to throw the towel in is a very hard thing to do. After my wreck in September 19,2003 I had plans of getting back to work. It never happened. I came home 5 weeks later and still had to learn to walk...

My new to me 288xp! Some questions and input wanted.

Sorry for your loss on the other saws but you have a real saw now . There are allready treads here on what you need. If I recall rite the 288 has left handed threads but should have an arrow pointing and say remove on clutch. I use an impact and hold the flywheel with my hand. If your just...

394xp....how will she fair on milling duty?!?!?!

I have run several big Huskys and all have their place. That 394 should do great for milling duty.

    Choosing a mill size?

Milling with a saw is a little harder on saw compaired to bucking a big stick. The key to long life milling is keeping the chain sharp and giving the saw a cool down after a long run. It pays to hit the chain a stroke or two after every long cut you make. In hard cutting more. Also keep the...

    Stihl Mill

Don't seem to bad to me. Would be pretty cool to have a Stihl brand mill. I have a 36" alaskan but at times I wish I had a smaller mill to use after a cant was cut. At that width a much smaller saw and some non safty 3/8 picco would cut fast and not take an hour to sharpen. Also smaller saw...

    Stihl 056 av mag ll

056 mag ll If your 056 is a true mag ll it should do great. The 056 was made in 3 different bore sizes I believe. 52 mm, 54 mm, and 56 mm for the mag ll. The 56 mm bore puts it about 94/95 cc's. The 056 turns less rpm than the 066/660 but should be good for milling. It is on the heavy side but...
