Walnut Shake or not? How would you mill

Seal the ends with Anchorseal ASAP. I don't think its shake, just drying cracks and may not go far into the log. A few cracks won't ruin the log, it just might yield differently than you had planned.

    42” light weight (D009)

A standard weight 42" bar has a lot of flop when the saw is laid over on its side. Its hard to start a straight cut on a lumpy tree. I think a lightweight bar would be worse, maybe barely usable.

    Husqvarna 3120XP Questions.....

Here in the U.S. the last 10 years or more (20 years?)the saws have been the EPA model. EPA is "Environmental Protection Agency" a U.S. government agency with control over such things. I don't know what Husqvarna sells in other markets but I suppose that they sell some U.S. certified models into...

Want to Sell Husqvarna 3120XP - well modded and in great shape

I've milled probably 15-20 good sized trees. I cut most 6/4 and thicker. I am covered up in wood. If anyone is sincerely interested in buying this saw, I can provide close up detail pictures of various parts of the saw if that helps make the deal.

Want to Sell Husqvarna 3120XP - well modded and in great shape

I bought this 3120 Husqvarna new, broke it in, and then had it modded for milling. The tuner installed an unlimited coil, a screw adjuster on the carb., and did a light muffler mod. This is a super strong saw that will pull a 42" bar with authority whether milling or falling. It is much stronger...

    Will Malloff has left us.

His book got me started chainsaw milling in the 80s and probably inspired many thousands others since then. He will be missed.

Any use for Chain brake handle on a milling saw?

The way I pick up my mill and saw makes me glad to have a chain brake. Because I start the saw on the ground and let it cool off running on the ground after a long cut, I use it every time I lift the saw on or off the log.

    Most efficient size Granberg Mill?

Tell us about your age and health, your finances, your time for the project and your ownership of the timber you propose to cut. You can surely cut enough wood with a CSM to do what you want but it'll take a lot of hard work and a couple of months to accomplish if you can keep at it every day...

    3120xp setup

I use a 7 tooth on a 42" bar. I feel its a little easier to run and easier on the saw than an 8. I mostly cut hardwoods, up to 30" or so. For smaller stuff and softer woods the 8 is faster.
