    Stihl 044 rebuild

Rebuilding a Stihl 044 cylinder and want to know how to determine what size piston arm pin I have, 10mm or 12mm. I guess I can take it apart and measure first before ordering the new parts. Any other tips or links to that rebuild to keep me from messin up something? Thanks in advance

    New saw

New Stihl MS461 Magnum followed me home last Monday. I needed a new one as I'm getting busier doing cleanups of customers property's. Latest was about 6 large Ash trees downed to mitigate the EAB. Took me a couple days and was about 40 min. drive. Lots of dead Ash trees out there. Cheers and...

    Good God

I just saw the prices of some wood at our local Lowe's store. They want $2.20 a board foot for pressure treated fence boards. The Cedar ones are $3.80 a board foot. I buy rough cut Eastern White Pine boards at 6/4 for .72 cents a board foot from a local Amish miller.

    Stove Pipe Question

Had a new steel roof put on the house and I'd like to now install a cleanout in my black stove pipe that connects the stove to the Selkirk chimney. It's about 30" long with a 6" to 8" adapter at the bottom and a cast iron damper near the top. All I see is 90* T fittings for that purpose...

    2021 Gypsy Moth infestation

Worst year I've seen in the 17 years I've been living here. Born and raised Ontarian (Southern Ontario , Canada) This year the outbreak of their caterpillars was immense. They're everywhere. First they ate all our Northern Red oaks to nothing along with any fruit trees like apple or pear. Then...

New firewood racks fell apart some.

Just repaired the new wood racks I built last Fall. The deck screws used for the cross-member support brackets sheared off and I repaired and replaced them with structural screws. Hopefully they will not break again. With the price of lumber lately, I try to utilize every bit of lumber and keep...

    New Carving Saw

Wanting to get into some light chainsaw carving and was interested in knowing if it's worth while using the new battery powered saws. I have a kind of rural home but want to keep the noise level down at the same time so was thinking of an electric carving saw or battery powered one. I've looked...

Any carvers use the new battery powered saws?

Wanting to get into some light chainsaw carving and was interested in know if it's feasible. I have a kind of rural home but want to keep the noise level down at the same time so was thinking of an electric carving saw. I've looked at Stihls and they look kind of expensive for their Lithium Ion...

    Nothin like a wood fire

There's nothing more enjoyable than heating your home with wood, in my opinion. It's the enjoyment of being somewhat self sufficient and handy with tools and fire. Plus, after a hard workday, it so nice to sit near a stove or fireplace and read, eat, relax and whatnot. Coming in from a brisk day...

    Arborists are Cool

Arborists have a real added value to the expansion of our North American cities and others across the world too. It is very important to help make a good, precise and informative plan for the future of our city's trees and natural environments to blend into the forests that were native to the...

Almost ready to Mill my Oak

I have most of the Red oak out of the bush now and will need to raise it up to help my milling with my new CSM. (One more 12 footer at about 24" diameter to skid out) I'll be using my Stihl 044 to cut it into boards, just not sure what thicknesses and how many of each yet. Logs are from 12" to...

    Ticks !!!!

Well tick season has started here again. I just pulled a deer tick out of the back of my right thigh. It had only been there a short few hours because it looked tiny and not engorged at all. It was a black-legged deer tick though, so I got a one-shot antibiotics from my clinic just in case. Lots...
