my uncle dropped by today with a clean like new MS390 thats got no compression at all , won't even fart--lol normally i toss these clam-shell stihls. but this one is so new like i'm having second thoughts. like maybe a hutzle shortblock? i haven't looked at the bottom end for excessive slack...

Echo chain saws..which one to get

i run 70cc and larger as well. yea a 70 has got more-- a 60cc will be plenty in 24" IFyou know what your doing. if you can't keep the chain and bar in shape it ain't gonna cut even if its 90cc-s i haven't noticed the 620s or 6100s being 'slow" and we have cut some rather large hickory...

Echo chain saws..which one to get

a good 60cc will cut 24" and larger all day long. i don't get where folks get a 60 won't cut ?? don't know how to sharpen?? a 24" ain't considered big even for pulpwood.

Echo chain saws..which one to get

i would rank a 620 at the top-- followed by a 590. echo makes good small saws like the 400 and the 450 if you muffler mod and re-tune them. the 590 is still the most saw for the least money out there. the 590 will cut big timber where the little saws will be a PITA for that. if you can...

    longer bar downside

i was a bit concerned about running the 60cc saws with the 24" till i tried it. as long as you have a sharp chain and keep everything in shape a 24" should be no problem.

    Husky 562xp vs Dolmar 6100?

if you find a deal on a 6100 by all means get it!!!
  14. jd548esco72

Advice needed....new saw. Husky, Echo or Dolmar?

look for deals on the 6100 and the 620p. sometimes they can be had way below MSRP the key is to shop around. start by asking the vendors on AS like ford 150. ECHO often has a 20% off sale and so forth. if i told you what i got that demo 6100 for --you would cry--lol

Advice needed....new saw. Husky, Echo or Dolmar?

i have a 6100 and a echo 620P that i did some repairs on and while i had it down i opened up the muffler quite a bit. i would say the 6100 had the edge stock in HP. both are good saws with good power. if i had to pick the winner i would go with the 6100 --although the 620P is certainly...

Need help with repairing an 036 Pro - I am being told its toast

pull the muffler and have a look. it is probably toast -- but it might be repaired. you might get away with just a fuel line and a piston-- but it may need a cylinder and seals. no way to tell with out a partial tear down.

    Looking for saw recommendations please

i would avoid stihls plastic clamshell saws. now dolmar/ makita makes some real runners in the smaller sizes that you might be interested in. there are some dolmar and echo dealers on AS . i suspect you could come up with a good deal by chatting them up.
