my new used Stihl MS 290 wont pull.

3/30/17 Now I'm having the same problem as you. I can't pull start my 290 Farm Boss. I've barley used this thing since I bought it new in 2011. It has less than 2 hours on it. I always drain the gas and run the saw to get all the gas out of the carb. Compression is just way to high me now...

Stihl MS290 Farm Boss Compression Problem

OP here. Same problem as before. I can't pull start this thing. This is basically a new saw as it has less than 2 hours on it since I bought it new back in 2011. It rips the pull start cord out of my hand. If no one can give me any advice, I'll take it to a Stihl dealer. Thanks guys, Don <><

Stihl MS290 Farm Boss Compression Problem

OP here. Now it seems to pull normal, and once in awhile it pulls really hard. I think I've got to get the piston in just the right spot before I really yank on it. I haven't used this saw very much. I just love and use my little Stihl MS-170 for 99% of what I do with a chain saw. So I guess I'm...

Stihl MS290 Farm Boss Compression Problem

Thanks Harley. I've already tried that. Everything seems fine with the spark plug out. And naturally the start rope pulls very easy with the spark plug out. But with the spark plug in, I can't pull the rope without it snatching the rope out of my hand from the compression. It seems like this...

Stihl MS290 Farm Boss Compression Problem

Hi Guys. I bought a brand new Stihl MS290 Farm Boss back in 2011. I haven't used it much. It has always been very hard to start as the engine's compression rips the pull start cord out of my hand when I give it a yank. There is no decompression button on this saw but it sure seems like there...

    What's it worth? Stihl MS170

OP here. I'm not that mechanically inclined, but I tore into her. Got the oil line out. That was kind of a chore because I had to take off the handle and carb ! Cleaned and blew out the oil line. Got everything back together. IT'S FIXED ! ! ! Oiler works just fine now, so I'm keep'n it. This...

    What's it worth? Stihl MS170

I have a 13 year old Stihl MS170 chain saw. It's been as reliable as dirt, and still runs great. It's always been an easy starter. I have other saws, but this has always been my "go-to saw" because it's so light and just a pleasure to use. I've never spent any money on repairs for it. But now...

    moisture meter ?

I have a cheap ($14.99) MM from Menards. It seems accurate, and it works just fine. I sample the wood at various points. When the moisture gets to 16% or less, it's ready to burn. I usually dry my firewood for at least a year...

Fiskars X27 What a Piece of Plastic

I love my X27. I don't use it much, but it sure does come in handy sometimes. Just this year, I cut a tree (don't know what kind it was), but my log splitter couldn't put a dent in any of the rounds. I couldn't believe it. I was about to noodle the rounds, but then decided to try the X27 on...

OK,WHAT IS YOUR MOST DEPENDABLE FIREWOOD SAW?

Truth be told............ for a home-owner........if properly maintained, most any of today's saws are "ALL" dependable as dirt and will last a long time. Problem is, many home-owners don't take care of their saws, and the pro's do. Even a professional saw won't start if left sitting for 2 years...

Your thoughts on this firewood processor..

If I continue to get wood from the forest, I'm gonna try some kind of winch. Cutting the downed tree in to 4 or 8 foot sections would make winching around obstacles easier.

I take a heavy duty (800 lb capacity) wagon with me. I've used it a few times, and BOY did it help! But usually the terrain is just to rough for anything with wheels.

Your thoughts on this firewood processor..

OP here. I've thought of trying this. It would be a lot of work to constantly re-position the anchor points to re-direct the tree. But at least it isn't "grunt" work. Don <><

Your thoughts on this firewood processor..

OP here. I live almost in the national forest. The permit is only $20 for (4) full cords of wood. I can buy three permits a year for a total of 12 full cords of wood. That's pretty cheap firewood. But there just isn't any "easy" to retrieve wood in the forest. Starting next year, I'll probably...

Timber wolf 5 or a super split type spliter

If most of my wood was of the tough gnarly type, I'd probably go with a conventional hydraulic splitter. It really depends on the species you gather the most. All the wood I gather is easy to split, and not that big. 18 inches is the max diameter I can take from the forest, and most of the...

Timber wolf 5 or a super split type spliter

Came across this old thread while doing some research. I know this is an old thread, but I to am thinking of getting a new splitter. Soooooo many to choose from, including the Super Split, the Split Second (by Agri Fab), the various TW's, and so on. Found a good video comparing the SS to a TW 5...

Your thoughts on this firewood processor..

OP here. The splitting part isn't my problem. I buy the permit to recover standing dead and downed trees in the national forest. It's the gathering part that is so time consuming and exhausting. I'm pushing 70 and I work alone. Carrying round after round from the forest back to my truck is a...

Your thoughts on this firewood processor..

Back in 2011 I posted a thread asking for opinions on the Hud-Son Wolverine Model M firewood processor ($8195). Here's a link to that post: http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/want-your-opinions-on-the-hud-son-wolverine-model-m-10-13.183625/ Well its 3 years later, and I'm still...
