    440 Aftermarket Cylinder ID

I just picked up an ms440 with an aftermarket cylinder. It runs exceptionally well. Can anyone help me ID the cylinder it has? There is no place for a decompression valve on it. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

    Chimney Top to Reduce Blowback

I run a Vermont Castings Vigilant that I’m really happy with. I replaced all the gaskets this year but the only problem I have is on really windy days (like today) the wind shoots down the chimney and I’ll get a puff of smoke in the house, especially if the top baffle in the stove is closed and...

    562 Compression

What’s the typical compression on a 562xp? Friend of mine has a 555 that was blowing 95-105 on two different gauges. No scoring. He put a new 562 jug and slug on and is getting the same reading. Decomp is deleted. Here’s the rub. The saw is running great. He had the compression tested at the...

    562 Transfer Port Covers

A friend of mine is trying to find 562 transfer port covers for his 555. He says he can only find them with a jug and that they are not sold separately. Is that true? Does anybody know where I can get a set? Thanks

Interesting article on Citrus Fruit Pest in FL.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-11-24/in-florida-the-oj-crop-is-getting-wiped-out-by-an-asian-invader This is the first I have heard of this one. Why do they always come from Asia? It seems like more invasive species have come from there in the last 15 years than any place else...

Husky 555,562 Carb Problems, Which One?

A friend of mine had a 555 with the El 44 carb. His saw has run perfect since day one. Between the El 44, 46 and 48, which carb had been known to have the most problems with the bog and other issues? Thanks

    Hemlock scale

I am seeing a lot of hemlock scale in the hems I treat for adelgid. We use safari on the larger hems but spray oil on just about anything we can reach. I was talking to someone the other day that said he uses insecticide in his second adelgid app with a lot of success at controlling scale as...

    261 muffler

Stupid question. Two screws at the bottom of the muffler are obvious. Where are the other fasteners to take off the muffler. Want to check the piston for scoring.

    Traditional vs Splitail

After reading Jepson Tree Climbers Companion I decided to start out climbing traditional with a anchor hitch on a blakes. The guys at work are breaking my chops saying I am wasting my time and should just go to a split tail on a prussic. Jepson seemed to imply that it is best to start off...

    250 puts a beatdown on a 261?!!

We got called in today to do some storm clean up after some big winds last night. At the end of the day we were finishing off a sugar maple and I happened to mention kind of jokingly to one of the guys I work with; my 250 will smoke the 261 he had been running all day. He laughs and said I am...

    ms180 No impulse line?

Just like the title says I had the carby off a ms180 today that was dying as soon as the choke was kicked off. My first thought was cracked impulse as the saw is about 10 years old w/no flippy caps. Pull the cover off take off the two carb nuts and try to pull off the carb with the choke linkage...

    Husky 242

My boss for the tree company I work for part time has a old husky 242 on the truck. He has since replaced it with a MS261 so I asked the guy I was working with today what's with the old 242? He said it runs great just real hard to pull over. I figure ok so I give her a couple of yanks. This...

    New MS250 Thanks Guys

Well I pulled the trigger on a new ms250 today thanks to your recommendations for the 250 over the 211. I know, it's not a pro saw but it's power to weight is very good for the class and I could not afford a new 346 or 261.I wanted to get it with a 14 inch bar but Stihl does not make a 14 in...

    MS 211 or MS 250

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new Ms211 tomorrow and I just wanted to see if anybody thought a ms250 might be a better choice. Ms 211 is 9.5 lb. and 2.3 horse. The 250 is 10.1 and 3.0 horse. They are both around 280 bucks. I will be using a 14 inch bar. I am getting tired of lugging...

    Apple for smoking

I have a burn pile filled with apple branches. Feel bad about burning it up since I know a lot of people like to use apple in a smoker. Branches have 1-2 inch bases. This is not firewood, if it was I would be using it myself. I am in the Northwest corner of CT, If anybody wants it they can pick...

    346xp gone after 2012

Am I the only person that knows without a shadow of a doubt that I will own a new 346xpne before they stop making them next year? Spike60 reported this a couple of days ago in his 562xp thread. Why would they stop making a saw that most people would say is one of if not the best of all time...

    025 Across the Street

Neighbor lady across the street has an 025 that lived in a damp basement full of fuel the last 10 years. A couple of months back a big limb breaks off one of her maples. She asks me to cut it up which I do. Boyfriend at the time comes out with the 025 and said it would not run. I take a look and...
