Go ahead and flame me - but advice and advise are not the same word

For Sale, but NEEDS FIXED. Why not just say it correctly? It needs TO BE fixed. Or, it NEEDS FIXING. PROBABLY though, I hate PROLLY the most.

    Change in Carlton Chain

This thread started out about chain innovations as I recall. Yes? Then again maybe not. Well, it seemed as though all chain from all manufacturers were pretty much about the same in the 1970's. Oregon was the best, Sabre was the worst. Stihl did not make a chain. Our Stihl saws came from the...

    Help with Stihl Saw ID

Yep, that right there be an 020AV. I would dribble a little mixed gas down the throat of the carburetor and see if it pops off. If it does, I wouldn't hesitate filling the tanks and see if she will start and stay running. You might get lucky. Nothing to lose, give it a go.

Fix for missing rubber "bushing" on 041AV front handle

Yep, those annular buffers are pricey on epay. I believe someone has started making after market clones though. In a pinch though, you could try a short section of stiff rubber hose using hose clamps tightened to the end of the handle and the short stub that is attached to the saw. Might get you...

    Yellow Birch

Yellow birch is good firewood. I like it as well as sugar (hard) maple. The smooth branch sized wood sometimes splits by hand quite easily, but the big trunk sections are very stringy and hard to split. If splitting by hand, try to whack thin slabs from the edge before attempting to split down...

    Are you still burning

Yes, I have a fire burning as I type this. Kinda nice today,,,,in the fourties, but going to get to about 32 tonight.

    Oil/Gas caps for a 020 AV Super?

I do not believe that the oil and gas cap on the 020 were the same

Went through a lot of wood this winter ... still cold ... still burning

My wood is almost gone. Have to rely on propane from two weeks from now, Shuddering to contemplate the cost.

    Ashes in the driveway

For me in this winter of winters, I have resorted to slinging the ash pan from the wood furnace over the snow banks deposited by the road crews. I hope the melting will be hurried by this. Cant hurt.

    STIHL Memorabilia & Tool Haul

The flaring tool circled in light blue was used on the steel sheet metal bushing where the starter rope exited the starter housing. The bushing prevented the rope from wearing away the magnesium housing of the starter. Guys who couldn't pull the starter rope straight up would wear this bushing...

    1970's Stihl shop guy

Hi Everyone! I know that some here frown on ressurecting an old thread, but I am the original poster, and thought this the best place to say something new. If you haven't read this thread before I was recounting my experience in the saw shop many years ago, and told some "stories" about some...

    041 No Start

This might me a long shot, but I have seen the terminal at the end of the plug wire arc and not make contact with the conductor in the wire when the wire is attached to the plug in the normal operating position. However, when the plug wire is bent differently as when testing the plug for fire...

    Muffler Modd And Screen Question

On chainsaws, I always think that a little backpressure is a good thing. But then I remember back in the early 1970's snowmobiles, the really hot ones cam from the factory with 1& 1/2 in flex tubes for each cylinder and no mufflers. The exhaust ports had much less area than those straight...

My First... and likely my last...

Hard Maple is the premium firewood in my part of far north Michigan. We don't have much of the easy splitting oak available, and most of the Hard maple goes to the paper companies. You should see all the logging trucks hauling hard maple to the paper mills! What hard Maple that is available...

    Nice neighbor

Your milling is CERTAINLY NOT harming her precious steps! Then you plow her driveway for free! You should send her a bill for the plowing! Haha! Damn people now. Stone and concrete age to a nice patina naturally. Obviously she is oblivious to that fact. Pfft! Bob

    first crappy chainsaw

No reasom fot an 041 to be in a "crappy saw" thread. Replace the parts that are worn or defective due to age. The 041 will growl as good as new. Bob

    Loadhandler

They look like a nice deal to me, as long as they hold up to use. Every ad I have seen, the load is quickly put on the ground, now that may be all well and good, but the last thing I want to do with a load of wood is have to pick it up off the ground to stack it. I would use the device...

Stacks.....tarps on top or not needed?

I would cover as you describe if I had the tarps. Actually I would prefer corregated metal. Having said that, we have never had the cover material on hand, and never bought any. The wood that my Dad burns gets piled up off the ground on small diameter poles in the wind and sun. We also try...
