    Am I Correct?

X2 on the North Star from Northern Tool. I have their largest splitter and it has not let me down in the four years I have owned it. We average about 15 cords a year with it. What ever you do get one with a Honda engine on it. It will not let you down and they usually start on the first pull...

    My New Favorite Firewood Tool!!!

These things have been huge time and back savers for me. I use them to haul stuff to the Gator when the tree is off the trail. You can carry two larger logs just like carrying a couple of five gallon buckets. I find them the most useful for getting larger logs up onto the splitter. Grab the...

Best way to move a stove...

I have had to move three stoves in the last few years. The "CAT'S ASS in moving equipment are a couple 8-10 foot sections of skate conveyors or AKA "speedways". I purchased mine for 39.00 a section from an industrial surplus store. Lay these on the ground put the stove on some plywood get her up...

Northstar 37 or Iron & Oak 26 or 30 Splitter????

This is our 4th season with our Northstar 37 ton. I love it. For the money you can't go wrong. We split for two homes mine and my mother in law's we have averaged about 18 cords a season. The four way wedge attachment is a real boat anchor, but using the stock wedge, it hasn't let us down on any...

How did I live without this tool?

Here is another tool, LOCKHART's FIREWOOD GRIPPER I bit the bullet and purchased two of them. What a life saver for me. I can haul two logs at a time just like carrying two five gallon buckets. I'm sure they have been discussed here but I thought I would throw this one out as a must have. They...

Damper in Chimney pipe... How many have them?

99% of the time the stove/draw is wonderful. I've never had a problem with draft. It is only on the occassion where I get a real wild one going that it is next to impossible to get it shut down. I was told that these newer EPA stoves will always have some draw to them when "shut down". With this...

Damper in Chimney pipe... How many have them?

Thanks for all the replies. I have been burning with a Jotul 500 for four seasons now without one. I have had two instances whee the fire "got away" from me a bit and a damper would have helped out quite a bit. My parents have one with an older Jotul they have had for 20 years. It is just left...

Damper in Chimney pipe... How many have them?

I don't have an in pipe damper and rely on the draft control of the stove. I was talking to a stove guy and he recommended one, saying you can control the draft better than relying only on the stoves, especially the newer EPA rated ones. Any thoughts on this one way or the other?

Anyone use northstar 37 ton log splitter ????????

I bought mine three years ago. I also looked and crunched numbers, pros and cons till the cows came home. For the dollar, I couldn't find a better overall machine. We split approx 15-20 cords per year, between two houses. I love the Honda engine. It handles just about anything you can throw at...

How many cords will you burn this season?

We will go through approximately 10 cords this winter. We have had a few small fires in the evening to knock the chill off the house. Once the cold gets here we will typically burn full time till march. I have 6 ready to go should be done in about a month. Luckily the wood we get has been down...

Added another cutter to the operation

Well I came home with her new saw today. I opted for the MS250. I looked at the whole line and I new I did not want one of those with all the new technology in them. EEZZEE this and EEZZEE that, intelicarb and what not. To get into something with a good old fashion compression release I was into...

Added another cutter to the operation

Trust me guys the thought crossed my mind. But if she doesn't end up with the shiny new saw, the idea of adding a saw to the inventory will be DOA!

Added another cutter to the operation

Haven't decided yet. It will be a Stihl though. I have an 036, MS192T, and an older 026. I'm going to try to get the dealer during lunch tomorrow.

Added another cutter to the operation

After several years of having my wife help out with the hauling and splitting of our yearly wood supply (about 18 -20 cords between us and my mother-in-law), she was finally checked out with the chainsaw over the weekend. She is like a kid in a candy store. She did a great job! So this week...

    Liner through damper

Some companies offer ovalized liners. I needed to modify my damper frame a bit with my 6 inch liner. Nothing that a right angled grinder didn't take care of ASAP.

    Wireless Chimney Thermometer Source?

The only reason I clean monthly is for my piece of mind. It takes me all of 20 minutes to do and thus far I barely get anything out at each cleaning. That confirms to me at least that my burning practices are sound. In the end all it does for me is allow me to sleep better at night. What I...

    Wireless Chimney Thermometer Source?

While I appreciate the wood burning advice, that is not the issue. I have a solid install, with top of the line materials, well seasoned wood, and I clean my chimney monthly. Crap happens no matter how safe you think you are being. I just want an extra line of defense to keep my family safe...

    Wireless Chimney Thermometer Source?

At this point I'm not concerned about the temps when we are awake. It is when the family is asleep and we are at the other end of the house that has me concerned. If I had a wireless set up I could set the monitor with high/low alarm next to the bed. If my chimney temps reach the predetermined...

    Wireless Chimney Thermometer Source?

I saw this company in one of my searches. A bit pricey, but it looks as though that may work. I may give them a call.

    Wireless Chimney Thermometer Source?

It was a No Go on my lead. The thermocouple transmitters don't handle that kind of temp. What do you think the max temp should be on one of these? I'm talking of a range where if it gets that high, you want the alarm going off next to your bed?
