Getting rid of stumps in woodlot ??

You can throw a lot of good wood into your ring, trying to burn out a stump, been there done that!!! Might try the charcoal method to see if that works faster.

    Timberwolf TW-3 Table Grate Retention???

Most three points have some way of stopping that side to side motion, whether its sway blocks attached to the tractor, a chain or bar attached to third point, somehow tighten that up. Maybe the design on the Timberwolf outfeed table is not the greatest but its better than not having one...

    Timberwolf TW-3 Table Grate Retention???

I have the Timberwolf TW-1 splitter with the table, it looks to be built about the same according to your pictures, and also has the 'vibrating out' problem. Throttling in the motor a bit so it doesn't vibrate so much helped some, try that with your tractor, put the bucket down if it has one...

    Dream garage!??

I have a 40x56x11 foot shop, pole barn construction, white steel lined inside, insulated, heat in the floor provided by an electric boiler, I keep that at 40 degrees then have a wood stove that I fire up to bring the temp up when I'm working in there, two 8x10 doors. I love it, it cost about...

    Solo cutting

I always cut alone but have become more conservative and careful as I get older. For instance, if my wife is not home I won't cut or I'll call a neighbor and tell him where I'm cutting and to check on me if I don't call him back.

Methods for cutting the fire starters

I also have a wood stove and like to have some small 1-2 inch rounds for starters. I cut mine in the woods while its still attached to the main trunk, and then only if its a nice straight run. If i have to trim too much, it stays in the woods.

    cover wood or not

Good practical post!!! No two summers are the same. I have an old hay shed, wood posts and steel roofing, its the perfect wood shed, I can haul my chunks in there with the tractor, split them, and toss them into a pile. The only stacking that I end up doing is on the sides and end to keep it...

    cover wood or not

An uncovered pile seems to get the most votes. Does it make a difference whether the uncovered wood is stacked or just tossed in a pile?

    Yes, you can buy happiness

I don't know why you guys keep trying to rain on his parade??!!! Hes using it for production, he could afford it, the company has a good reputation, the resale value is high, the people that own one love it - all pluses!!! Congrats MNGuns!!! If I hadn't bought a Timberwolf late last year I'd...

    Problems splitting wood

As I was reading thru these posts I was thinking the same thing - split in the winter!!! When I was splitting by hand I'd cut one day, stand all the pieces on end, then come back the next morning with my 8 pound maul and split away. Go thru and split a bunch, rest while you stand the big chunks...

    Brave spiltter

Nosmo, not sure I understand your pipe idea?? I can see where the pipe would give you the leverage to easily lift it and swing it, but when you start pulling I would think that the pipe would come out....

    Brave spiltter

Tips like this are why I read this site!!! How does that cart work on rough ground?? I bought a Timberwolf splitter last winter and the one thing that I don't like about it is that its heavy to move by hand unless I'm on concrete in my shed. I drive as close as possible with my pickup but...

Stacking: The "red-headed stepchild" of firewood processing

Stacking is not for me, I've got better things in life to do - fishing, hunting, putting in food plots, etc. I just stack the ends to conserve space in my shed.

So I wanna plant some trees...

Consider weed fabric, it helps control weeds and also conserves moisture. I won't plant trees without it anymore, once you have the tree planted and the fabric down, you're done messing with that tree, no watering (except maybe the first year), no weed control. Check out this website -...

Burning wood from the inside out!

My mom calls them 'love logs'. :)

    Tractor

Look for a Ford 8 or 9N with a belly mower on it. It would do your mowing, you could get some attachments for it, they still make parts for it, and its about 25 HP for your log pulling.

A question about cooking with wood

kswoodsman, how long do you let the splits burn before you put the smoker over the top? I have a Brinkman smoker that I've never really liked because it uses up too much charcoal but with wood it opens up a whole new possibility. I like the idea of the metal disk to spread out the heat...

A question about cooking with wood

Anybody try cooking with wood on a Weber grill? I would think that I'd have to take my normal 18 inch pieces, cut in half, then split fine, then it would be possible. Wish I'd have seen this sooner!!! I just bought a bunch of charcoal on sale.... Oh well, it won't goto waste.

    I'm a convert!

I've done the top down fire starting for years, but mainly because I want to start the fire and walk away for 1/2 hour or so. By the time I get back its ready for some big chunks. Only exception is if I want heat in a hurry, like when i get back from fishing and have some fish to clean and guts...
