hand sharpening - whats your routine?

I've been free hand filing for a while. If I am using semi-chisel I will touch up about every 2nd or 3rd tank. If I am using chisel bit every 1 or 2 tanks Sometimes my chains go their entire life without seeing a vice. I give a couple strokes to the rakers about every 3rd...

Another Personal Protection Device/Possible Cure for CAD

I ran across this site earlier this morning while Googling for Saw info: Amazingly one may be able to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. A possible cure for cad and personal protection from more of the dangers that are lurking out there....Bob:D http://zapatopi.net/afdb/

    Oregon chains

In 40 years I have not gotten a 'bad' Oregon chain. All of the posts here have good suggestions as to what might be wrong. I am sure that the problem has been addressed. I might add my .02 though. I recently looked at a friends new little Homelite that "Won't cut right". I damd near needed an...

    Stihl Fuel Filter Question

Thanks........The carb is freshly cleaned/rebuilt. New fuel line and vent (button type) came with the new fuel tank assembly. The impulse line and boot are also new. Very frustrating. I did not replace the seals or crankcase gasket when I rebuilt it. Doesn't act like a vacuum leak though. I...

    Stihl Fuel Filter Question

I am having a really wierd problem with my 038. It is broken in now and starts, runs and idles great for the most part. Every 1-2 tanks of gas it starts starving for fuel. I pull the fuel filter and blow it out and it runs great for 1-2 tanks then does it all over. The filter seems to be plugging...

Chain brake - helpful or hinderance

Chain breaks are there to help minimize more or less minor injuries. Looking back at my buddies that have died in the woods they were: killed by a snag, killed by a boulder knocked loose by the skidder, killed by a log accidentally flipped off the bunk by the loader and one killed when he drove...

    What if

Didn't Textron and Amf merge back in the 70's and actually build Homelites and Harleys? Probably one of those convoluted memories!?!?:dizzy: Bob

Chain brake - helpful or hinderance

I was still felling when chain brakes first came out. Whenever somebody would buy a new saw with a chain break they would take it off and save it to put back on if they traded in or sold the saw. Take 'em or leave 'em it just seems to be the way things are going. Someday there will be an "idiot...

    Stihl MS390 After Market P & C

Howdy.......Does anyone know of an after market cylinder or p&c kit for the MS390? I see that several people have rebuilt with a 290 after market kit. Seems like a pretty big downgrade to me. I can find pistons and 290 kits but no 390........Thanks Bob:chainsaw:

    359 Muffler Mod

I was figuring on brazing on deflectors and screen keepers with a screw to hold the screens in. I have never had screws fall out either. They tend to tighten up with use. Bob:chainsaw:

    359 Muffler Mod

Howdy.......What temp silver solder do you use? What flux do you use? The solder usually comes in easy, medium and hard. The harder it is the higher the temp. I too have brazed lots of things with silver. Kind of spendy but pretty dang handy. Going to try. a couple of muffler mods. 044 and 046...

    A Sweet Abomination

Thanks. I really like this saw. I am pretty sure the tank/handle assembly must be aftermarket for the newer models. It was a perfect matchup with no mods. The flippy cap even seals and works good. I showed it to one of my feller buddies, he pointed at the cap and yelled "abomination" he's sort...
